Introducing To Dos: Carly Now Manages Your Task List
Your to-do list and your calendar have never talked to each other. Until now.
Just mention a task in any email to Carly — “add dentist to my todos” or simply “return War and Peace” — and she’ll add it to your list. No app to open. No special syntax. Just tell her what you need to do, the same way you’d tell a human assistant.
Why This Changes Everything
Most to-do apps live in a separate silo from your calendar. You maintain a list of things you need to do over here, and a schedule of when you’re doing things over there, and the two never talk to each other. So your to-do list grows while your calendar fills up, and nothing actually gets done.
Carly is different because she already knows your calendar. That means your tasks and your time are finally in the same place — managed by the same assistant.
Block Out Time for Your Tasks
This is the big one. You can ask Carly to block out calendar time for the things on your to-do list.
Say something like:
- “Block out time this week for everything on my todo list”
- “Schedule 30 minutes tomorrow to work on the Q1 budget”
- “Find time this afternoon for my personal errands”
Carly will look at your calendar, find open slots, and create focused time blocks for your tasks. No more hoping you’ll “find time” — Carly makes the time.
How It Works
1. Email Carly a task
Mention a to-do in any email to carly@usecarly.com, carl@usecarly.com, or calbot@usecarly.com. She’ll recognize it and add it to your list — no special formatting needed.
“Pick up the dry cleaning and call the dentist back”
That’s two tasks. Carly gets it.
2. Carly organizes your list
She automatically categorizes tasks into groups like Work and Personal, so your list stays clean without you lifting a finger. As you send more tasks and updates, your list evolves over time.
3. View and edit from your dashboard
Your full to-do list lives in the new To Dos tab on your dashboard. Edit, reorganize, or remove items anytime. A change history tracks every update Carly makes, so you always know what changed and when.
Things You Can Say
Carly understands natural language, so you don’t need to memorize commands. Here are some examples:
| What you want | What you say |
|---|---|
| Add a task | ”Send the invoice to Acme Corp” |
| Add multiple tasks | ”I need to call Mom, buy groceries, and review the contract” |
| Remove a task | ”Remove the dentist todo — I already called” |
| Check your list | ”What’s on my todo list?” |
| Block time for tasks | ”Block out time tomorrow for my work todos” |
| Schedule a specific task | ”Find 45 minutes this week to draft the proposal” |
| Prioritize | ”What should I focus on today?” |
Your Calendar + Your Tasks = Actual Productivity
Here’s why having your to-do list inside Carly is so much more powerful than a standalone task app:
Carly knows when you’re free. She won’t suggest blocking time during your 2pm standup. She finds real open slots that actually work.
Tasks become calendar events. A to-do that says “review Q1 budget” is vague. A 45-minute block on Wednesday at 10am labeled “Review Q1 budget” is a plan. Carly turns the first into the second.
Everything stays in one workflow. You already email Carly to schedule meetings. Now you email her to manage tasks too. One assistant, one workflow, zero context switching.
She remembers everything. Forgot what you asked her to add last week? Just ask. Carly keeps a full history of every task you’ve added, completed, or removed.
