How to Use Carly AI Inside ChatGPT (MCP Setup)

Carly is an executive assistant that works over email: you email it like a coworker and it does the work. The Carly MCP server adds a second way in: connect it to ChatGPT and you can drive the same assistant, on the same account, from the chat window you already have open. Setup takes about a minute at usecarly.com/mcp. Once connected, ChatGPT gets 122 tools spanning email, calendar, contacts and CRM, workflows, files, notes and data, booking pages, and third-party apps. The important part is that this adds to the email assistant rather than replacing it: Carly still has its own address you can email tasks to, and workflows you start from chat keep running in Carly's cloud whether your laptop is open or closed.

Step by step

  1. 01

    Understand what connecting actually adds

Carly already works over email; you send it a task like you would a coworker. Connecting it to ChatGPT doesn't move your assistant, it gives you a second door into the same one. Same account, same workflows, same memory, now reachable from a chat window.

  2. 02

    Add the connector

Go to usecarly.com/mcp and follow the ChatGPT steps. In ChatGPT the connector lives under Plugins in the sidebar. The whole setup takes about a minute, and there's nothing to install and no API key to generate.

  3. 03

Know what ChatGPT can reach once it's connected

One connector hands ChatGPT 122 tools: email (search, read, send, reply, draft, organize), calendar (availability, creating and moving events, scheduling polls), contacts and CRM, workflows, files in Google Drive and OneDrive including document creation, notes and data tables, booking pages, and third-party app integrations with Python execution.

  4. 04

Build workflows from the chat window

You can create and schedule automations from chat, not just run one-off tasks. Those workflows execute in Carly's cloud, so they keep going after you close the laptop, and from chat you can check on them, edit them, or start new ones.

  5. 05

Ask for a verdict, not just data

The prompts that pay off are the ones that end in a judgment call. "Give me the blunt version" turns a list of things into something you can act on, which matters more once the assistant can see your real inbox and calendar.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
