Tab AI Review (2026): Is tab.bot Legit and Reliable?
Tab is an AI agent you text in iMessage or WhatsApp. It has its own phone number, computer and browser, so it calls businesses, uses websites and buys things once you approve. It came out of stealth on October 6, 2026, at a $300 million valuation. Our Tab explainer covers who built it.
The short verdict: Tab is a real company, but it isn’t reliable yet. It went down twice in its first two weeks. Independent tests show bookings and purchases stalling before the end, a memory that misses context, and calls that only go one way: Tab calls out, but it can’t answer your phone or take a call from you. It will place a call and it won’t spend without asking, and that’s about it. Don’t trust it with anything that matters. If you need an assistant that reliably calls, answers and remembers people, use Carly.
This review draws on Assistant Benchmark’s test runs of Tab (October 7 to 14, 2026), the founder’s own posts about outages, Tab’s own terms, privacy and security pages, its public changelog, and a conversation with a Tab user. We do not have our own Tab account, so nothing here is a hands-on result of ours.
Tab’s scores
| Test | Score | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| Phone calls | 10 | Called a restaurant within a minute, reported back a minute later |
| Permissions and privacy | 9 | Took a card through a link it can’t read, confirmed totals, stopped on command |
| Recommendations | 7 | Good pick in a minute, but misplaced a florist twice |
| Memory | 6 | Kept name and card, but booked a Saturday dinner over a trip it had planned |
| Travel | 5 | Good flight options in ten minutes, then an hour on the airline site without finishing |
| Purchasing | 4 | Switched mid-order to a cheaper option whose signup code expired |
| Online tasks | 3 | Three tries at a table for two, by website and phone, none booked |
| Overall | 6.3 | Instinct scores 8.3 on the same benchmark |
Where Tab falls down
- It goes down. Two days after launch, founder Brennan Erbz posted “If anyone is having issues with Tab, or Tab is misbehaving or being slow, please give us 60 min,” blaming “unprecedented demand.” On October 17 a user posted that Tab had stopped replying, Erbz answered “Please give us 60 min,” and it was back about five hours after the user first posted. We found no status page.
- It doesn’t finish. The pattern across tests is a strong start and a stalled ending: the right flight found, then an hour lost at the pay step; the right bouquet found, then abandoned. A Tab user we spoke with this week put it more simply: it’s unreliable.
- Calls only go one way. Tab places calls. Its site, terms and changelog describe no way to call Tab, and it won’t pick up your line when a client rings.
- It doesn’t always call. The same user said Tab doesn’t reliably call him when asked. Tab’s changelog also says a reminder can run late when Tab is busy with another task.
- Memory misses context. Testing scored it 6: it kept your name and card, then booked dinner over a trip it had planned. The user we spoke with said it doesn’t remember the people he deals with.
- No Outlook. One Google sign-in connects Gmail, Calendar and Drive. We found no Microsoft 365 support.
- Nothing is promised. No price, a waitlist, and terms that say Tab doesn’t promise “every request, call, website action, connection, purchase, or delivery will succeed.”
The two things Tab gets right
It places outbound calls well: it rang a restaurant within a minute in testing, and one user on X had it get an Apple refund in five minutes. And it asks before it spends. It shows the item, the total and who gets paid, and your card goes in through a link the AI can’t read. Neither fixes the problems above.
Is Tab legit? Is tab.bot safe?
Yes, Tab is a real company: Terrasoft, Inc., backed by investors including SV Angel and Valar Ventures, per TechCrunch. Its safety design is the strongest part of the product:
- Passwords are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and the AI planning your work only gets a reference to them, never the password.
- It stops instead of retrying when a cart or total changes.
- Its terms say Tab may tell people it is an AI when it calls, and only records when recording is on and consent rules are met.
Two cautions. The terms promise nothing will “always be available, accurate, complete” or that “every request, call, website action, connection, purchase, or delivery will succeed,” and liability is capped at the greater of $100 or what you paid in the past year. And importing your contacts means giving Tab your Apple ID login and the six-digit code Apple sends you.
Pricing
No price. Tab is a private beta: you sign up at tab.bot with your mobile number and send one text to finish. See Tab on WhatsApp for the WhatsApp route.
Need calls that work every time? Carly
Tab is a texting agent that sometimes calls. Carly is an assistant built around your phone, email and calendar, and it follows your rules the same way every time.
- Answers your calls 24/7, or only the ones you miss, in English or Spanish, and books callers on your real calendar.
- Remembers every caller. Carly looks each one up in your CRM, greets known people by name, and logs every call, transcript and text to their record.
- Calls you on schedule. “Call me every weekday at 8am with my day.” Miss it and the rundown lands in your email.
- Takes your call. Ring your Carly number from your own phone and talk to your assistant.
- Calls people for you and writes up the result, from your business number, then runs a workflow on it if you want one.
- Works inside ChatGPT and Claude. Add the Carly plugin or connector and place calls from the chat (tutorial).

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
