Fix Your Gmail Auto-Labeling by Emailing Carly AI
AI has made auto-sorting email easy. It has not made it accurate. Carly's auto-label template was turned on with no customization and promotional mail was still landing in Primary rather than Promotions. Rather than opening a settings page or a rule builder, the fix was a single email to Carly asking her to change it. She rewrote the workflow, then tested the new version against a real promotional message to confirm it routed correctly. That test is not optional: every agent has to prove its workflow works on a real message before it runs, which is how a confident-sounding wrong answer gets caught before it touches your inbox. A follow-up request had her go back and re-sort the previous few days, so the backlog cleared along with the rule.
Step by step
- 01
Notice what the classifier got wrong
Turn on the auto-label template and watch it for a day. The failure to look for is the specific one: promotional mail sitting in Primary, or a category you care about being lumped in with everything else.
- 02
Email Carly and describe the fix in plain language
Instead of hunting for a settings screen, send a message saying what went wrong and how it should behave. There is no rule syntax to learn and no builder to open.
- 03
Let her rewrite the workflow
Carly edits the labeling workflow itself, not just the one message. The change applies to everything that arrives from that point on.
- 04
Require a test against a real message
Before the rewritten workflow runs, it has to prove itself on an actual promotional email and route it correctly. Every agent has to pass this check, which is what keeps a plausible-sounding rule from quietly mislabeling your mail.
- 05
Ask her to re-sort the backlog
A new rule only fixes new mail unless you say otherwise. One more request has Carly reprocess the last few days so the inbox behind you matches the rule in front of you.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
