Grok + Google Contacts: No Connector, and the Way In
Grok has no Google Contacts connector, built in or in its catalog. Its Google connectors cover Gmail, Calendar and Drive, which means it can read a message from someone without being able to look them up. Where Google Contacts sits against Grok’s connector list
Grok’s built-in connectors cover Gmail and Google Calendar, Google Drive, Outlook Mail and Calendar, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint and Salesforce. Its catalog adds apps like Box, GitHub, Notion, Linear and Canva. Google Contacts is on neither list, and Grok Bot has no Google Contacts plugin either. In practice Grok can find the email Josh sent and still cannot tell you his phone number, his company, or the note you saved about him, because those live in the contact book rather than the inbox.
Google has no Contacts MCP server to paste in
Grok accepts any public MCP server as a custom connector, so the next question is whether Google ships one for Contacts. It does not. Google’s official managed MCP servers cover services like Maps, BigQuery, Compute Engine and Kubernetes Engine, and nothing in Workspace. Contact servers built on the People API exist as community code, and each one means your own Google Cloud credentials and a server to host.

What people report going wrong with Grok’s custom connectors
Custom connectors are young, and two public reports are worth knowing about before you depend on one. A thread on Cursor’s community forum, opened on 14 August 2026, describes custom MCP servers in Grok Bot hanging and taking every other connector down with a DeadlineExceeded error, while staying invisible in the Plugins screen so they could not be removed. More than twenty people reported the same problem before Cursor shipped a self-service fix on 7 September. Separately, an issue opened in May 2026 on the GitHub tracker for Plane, the project management tool, describes Grok’s custom connector sitting on “Connecting…” indefinitely after sign-in, and it is still open.
If a connection stalls, remove it at grok.com/connectors and add it again before assuming the server is at fault.

Does Grok have a Google Contacts connector?
