Grok Bot: What It Does and Who Can Use It

SpaceXAI launched Grok Bot on August 11, 2026: named AI teammates that share a persistent cloud computer, sign into your tools, and keep working after you close your laptop. It is an early beta, it is gated to the top subscription tiers, and the single most important thing to understand before you hand it real work is that every Bot you create shares one machine.

What it actually is

A Bot is a persistent, named agent. You message it the way you would text a colleague, hand it a task, and it works in the real tools rather than returning a draft in chat. SpaceXAI’s own description is that Bots “finish jobs end to end, and only come back when something needs your approval.”

Three properties make it different from asking a chatbot for help:

  • It has a computer. Each Bot works on a cloud virtual machine with a browser, a filesystem, and a terminal. It can use connectors where they exist and drive the browser where they do not, which covers services with no clean API.
  • It persists. Named Bots keep memory, files, browser sessions, and preferences across turns, so context compounds instead of resetting every task.
  • Bots coordinate with each other. They can message each other, share context in group chats, and pass ownership, with one Bot acting as a chief of staff over specialists.

Grok Bot is not the Grok you use on grok.com, and it is not Grok Build. Those are three separate products, and the differences matter most around what can start work on its own.

One computer, shared by every Bot

This is the detail worth reading twice, because it runs against the way the product is described. “A team of teammates” implies separation. There is none.

Every Bot on your account uses the same cloud computer. Per the Grok Bot documentation, browser cookies and signed-in sessions are shared, files are visible to every Bot, and command-line credentials are shared. Each Bot gets its own screen on that machine, and SpaceXAI is explicit that the screens “are separate work surfaces, not separate security boundaries.”

What can start a Bot on its own

Grok Bot saves a working method as a skill and assigns it to a Bot as a routine. Routines run while your laptop is closed, and they are capped: a Bot can own up to 50, and the app keeps the 20 most recent run records for each one. If you stay away long enough, Grok Bot may ask whether to keep routines running and pause them if nothing answers.

Access runs through a Cursor account, which follows from SpaceX’s acquisition of Cursor’s parent company Anysphere, announced in June 2026. Grok Bot uses Cursor authentication, inherits your Cursor team’s MCP policy, and is administered from the Cursor dashboard.

The documented availability breaks down as:

  • Individuals: SuperGrok Heavy, Cursor Ultra, or a one-time trial.
  • Self-serve teams: available, with premium seats carrying a weekly usage allowance and standard seats using the trial or on-demand usage.
  • Enterprise: rolling out, via a Cursor account team.

Two things are worth flagging on cost. SpaceXAI’s public plan cards stop at SuperGrok Plus, so the Heavy tier that unlocks Grok Bot is not priced on the page that lists the consumer plans. And usage is an allowance plus on-demand overage billed from model and token cost, not a fixed monthly ceiling. Reported figures circulating on launch day did not match anything in the primary documentation, so treat any single number you see as unconfirmed.

Platform support at launch is macOS on Apple silicon and Intel, Windows on x64 and Arm64, and iPhone on iOS 18 or later. Linux desktop, Android, and iPad are not supported yet, and Legacy Privacy Mode blocks Grok Bot entirely because the product requires cloud data storage.
