How to Add a Banner on LinkedIn (2026)

Your LinkedIn banner — the wide background image behind your photo — is prime real estate most people leave blank. The right size is 1584 x 396 pixels (a 4:1 ratio). Here’s how to add or change it without it looking blurry or cropped.

1. Add a Banner (Desktop)

  1. Go to your profile.
  2. Click the camera/edit icon in the top-right of the background banner area.
  3. Click Upload photo (or Change photo if you already have one).
  4. Select your image. Use 1584 x 396 px for the cleanest fit.
  5. Reposition with the zoom and drag controls if needed.
  6. Click Apply.

2. Add a Banner (Mobile)

  1. Tap your photo > View Profile.
  2. Tap the banner area at the top, or the camera/edit icon on it.
  3. Tap Add photo / Change photo and pick your image.
  4. Drag to reposition, then tap Apply / Save.

3. Get the Dimensions Right

  • Recommended size: 1584 x 396 pixels, a 4:1 aspect ratio.
  • File type: JPG, PNG, or GIF; max file size 8 MB.
  • Keep important text and logos centered, away from the edges — your profile photo and headline overlap the lower-left corner and the image crops differently on mobile.
  • Export at full resolution; uploading a small image is the #1 cause of a blurry banner.

4. Troubleshooting

My banner looks blurry

The source image is too small or low-resolution. Re-export at exactly 1584 x 396 px and re-upload — LinkedIn won’t sharpen an upscaled image.

Important parts of my banner are cut off

Your photo and headline cover the lower-left corner, and mobile crops the edges. Move key elements toward the center and re-apply.

The upload won’t go through

Check the file is under 8 MB and in JPG, PNG, or GIF format. Oversized or unsupported files are rejected silently.

Can I use a different size?

LinkedIn will accept other sizes but crops them to 4:1, which often distorts the framing. Stick to 1584 x 396 for predictable results.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
