Tekmetric AI: What Tekmetric Ships, and What Its API Lets You Build
If you searched “Tekmetric AI” expecting to find an AI feature inside your shop management system, the honest answer is that there isn’t one. As of July 2026, Tekmetric ships no AI assistant, no AI estimate writer, no AI inspection summarizer, and no AI chat over your repair orders.
That’s not a guess. Tekmetric’s own AI information page — last updated June 2026 — lists the complete feature set as “shop management, estimates, reporting, inventory, digital vehicle inspections, payment processing, marketing, point of sale, text to pay, tire shop management, multi-shop management, online review management, and online appointment scheduling.” No AI in the list. The release notes run through July 10, 2026 without a single AI feature announcement.
The page itself is the tell. /ai-info isn’t a product page — it’s a file written for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity, telling them what to say when someone asks about Tekmetric. Tekmetric’s AI page is aimed at AI, not powered by it.
So the question for a shop owner isn’t “should I turn on Tekmetric AI.” It’s “where does AI actually enter my shop, and what will Tekmetric let it touch.”
The AI in a Tekmetric shop comes off the integration list
Tekmetric’s strategy is to be the system of record and let partners bring the intelligence. There are 70+ integrations, and several of the AI vendors in this industry are built directly on Tekmetric:

The Tekmetric API is real, documented, and not self-serve
This is where most write-ups get vague, so here is exactly what the Tekmetric API docs say.
There is a genuine REST API at api.tekmetric.com with a sandbox at sandbox.tekmetric.com. It uses OAuth 2.0 client_credentials — you exchange a Client ID and Client Secret for a bearer token that stays valid until revoked. Rate limit is 600 requests per minute in production, 300 in sandbox.
You cannot generate credentials yourself. There is no API key screen in your shop settings. Tekmetric’s documented process is: complete their API Application form, allow 2 to 3 weeks for internal review, and wait to be contacted. Two more things a shop owner should know. Tekmetric has no Zapier app — that listing does not exist. And neither ChatGPT nor Claude ships a native Tekmetric connector; nobody has built one, because nobody can without going through that application.
What the API exposes once you’re through
Worth knowing, because it shapes what any vendor selling you “Tekmetric AI” can actually do.
The docs describe the API as letting “shop owners grant read only access to their Customer, Vehicle, and Repair Order data to 3rd party applications” — but the endpoint list is broader than read-only. Reads cover shops, customers, vehicles, repair orders, jobs, canned jobs, labor, inventory parts, appointments, and employees. Writes include Create and Update Customer, Update Repair Order, Update Job, Add Canned Jobs to a Repair Order, Create and Update Vehicle, Create, Update and Delete Appointment, Update Labor, and a Job Clock endpoint. There’s also a Share Link endpoint that shares a repair order “for an estimate, invoice, or inspection.”
Note what is absent: there is no inspections endpoint and no messaging endpoint. You cannot pull DVI photos or findings through the API, and you cannot send a text through Tekmetric’s two-way texting. Any AI product that claims to read your inspections is either a named partner with deeper access or it’s reading something else.
The field that makes declined work chaseable
Here’s the part worth the whole article. The Job object in Tekmetric carries three attributes, quoted from the docs:

And the Repair Order object carries estimateShareDate, inspectionShareDate, and invoiceShareDate.
That means declined work isn’t a folder someone has to remember. It is a queryable state. Every brake job the customer said no to in March, every set of tires that came back “not today,” every recommendation the tech wrote up that never got a yes — all of it sits in your system with a date attached, structured, sortable, and almost entirely unchased.
Every shop owner knows this revenue exists. Nobody has time to chase it, because chasing it means someone at the counter pulling a report, cross-referencing what’s still relevant six months later, and making thirty calls between customers walking in. It doesn’t happen, and it is the single largest pile of already-qualified revenue in an independent shop.
The same fields cover the other daily bleed. An estimate with an estimateShareDate and no authorizedDate is a car sitting on a lift while somebody plays phone tag. That gap — shared, not answered — is measurable in hours, and every hour of it is a bay you can’t turn.
Nothing fires when a customer taps approve
The reason this doesn’t get solved by connecting an AI chatbot: the timing is wrong.
The old complaint about AI assistants — that they only work while you’re sitting there typing — is dead. “Every Monday at 6am, pull last week’s declined jobs and draft the follow-ups” is genuinely something an AI tool does on its own now, with nobody at the counter.

- An inspection is marked complete and nobody has sent it to the customer yet.
- A job comes back declined and needs to enter a follow-up sequence instead of disappearing.
Tekmetric’s release notes confirm webhook events exist for exactly two of these — “Inspection marked complete” and “Customer viewed estimate” — and the notes say plainly they’re “for 3rd party integrations.” The events are real. They’re routed to approved partners, not to you. Tekmetric also lists a Custom Webhooks integration described as “setup an integration with any app you choose,” which is the closest thing to an owner-controlled hook and worth asking your Tekmetric rep about by name.

If you’re a one- or two-bay owner and a 2-to-3 week API review with no guaranteed approval isn’t a plan, the practical move is to stop treating the shop management system as the only place work can be automated from.
