What Is Lindy AI? The AI Executive Assistant, Explained

Lindy AI is an AI executive assistant made by Lindy (lindy.ai), a San Francisco startup founded by Flo Crivello. Connect your Gmail or Outlook and Lindy triages your inbox automatically, drafts replies in your voice, schedules meetings, preps you before calls, records and summarizes meetings, and texts you what matters — you operate it largely through iMessage or SMS. It’s aimed at founders, executives, and busy professionals who want EA-style support without hiring one.

Here’s what it actually does, how it works, what it costs, and where its limits are.

Lindy went from agent builder to executive assistant

Lindy spent its first years as a no-code AI agent platform — you assembled “Lindies” from triggers, conditions, and actions, the way you’d build a Zapier workflow with an LLM inside. In February 2026 it relaunched as a consumer-facing AI executive assistant: instead of you building agents, Lindy ships one pre-assembled assistant focused on email, calendar, and meetings. The builder still exists underneath (and is emphasized for enterprise teams), but “Lindy” in 2026 primarily means the assistant. The company has raised roughly $50M from investors including Menlo Ventures, Battery Ventures, Coatue, and Tiger Global, and claims 400K+ professionals use it.

What Lindy AI does

  • Email triage. Lindy labels and sorts every incoming email into categories (To Respond, FYI, Newsletters, Invoices…), auto-archives noise, and can text you when something urgent lands. This runs autonomously — no rules to write.
  • Email drafting. Replies are drafted in your voice and saved to your drafts folder. By default nothing sends without your approval; Lindy also drafts follow-ups when someone hasn’t replied.
  • Scheduling. Lindy finds times, proposes three slots when nothing’s agreed, and reschedules by text (“move my 2pm to Thursday”) — no scheduling links involved.
  • Meeting support. A notetaker joins Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams calls and delivers summaries, action items, and transcripts; a daily brief and pre-meeting prep round it out.
  • iMessage/SMS interface. The signature feature: you text Lindy like a human assistant — delegate tasks, ask about your day, even send a screenshot of someone’s availability.
  • Phone calls and more. Higher tiers add an AI phone agent, computer use (Lindy driving a cloud browser), and the underlying agent builder with hundreds of app integrations.

How the approval model works

Lindy’s marketing says it “doesn’t assist — it acts,” but the mechanics are more careful. Inbox triage is fully autonomous; email replies are drafts by default (“Nothing goes out without your approval,” per Lindy’s docs); and actions in custom-built agents have per-step confirmation toggles you can loosen as trust builds. In practice, Lindy is a draft-and-approve assistant — you stay the final step in most loops, which is safer but means the back-and-forth still routes through you.

What Lindy AI costs

Plans start at $49.99/month (Plus — “standard usage,” up to 2 inboxes), then $99.99 (Pro — 3x usage, computer use, model choice) and $199.99 (Max — 7x usage), with custom Enterprise pricing. There’s no free plan anymore, just a 7-day trial, and the usage quotas aren’t published — the assistant pauses when you hit yours, with opt-in overages at 2x the normal rate. The full metering mechanics are in our Lindy AI pricing breakdown.

What Lindy AI is good at — and its limits

Lindy’s strengths are real: setup is easy (its most-praised trait across G2 reviews), the iMessage experience is the best in the category, and autonomous triage cleans an inbox on day one.

The limits show up with reliance. You approve every reply, so at volume you become the bottleneck. The usage meter is opaque and the top complaint theme in Lindy’s own reviews. Support on all individual plans is a help center plus community resources — dedicated support is Enterprise-only. And scheduling, while smooth for 1:1s, thins out at the hard edges: CC-based scheduling (handing an external thread to the assistant) is documented as coming soon, and multi-party group coordination isn’t documented at all. Our full Lindy AI review goes deep on both sides, including why it’s rated 4.9/5 on G2 and 1.7/5 on Trustpilot at the same time.

How Lindy compares

Against automation platforms (n8n, Zapier), Lindy is the pre-assembled assistant — you brief it instead of building workflows, and you pay assistant prices for the convenience. Against focused email tools (Fyxer), Lindy covers more of the day. Against Motion, it’s inbox-first where Motion is calendar-first.

The closest comparison is with other AI executive assistants. Carly targets the same job with the opposite autonomy model: each Carly agent has its own real email address, so you CC it on a thread and it replies to people directly, negotiates multi-party meeting times, books the meeting, and updates your tools across 200+ integrations — finished, not drafted. It starts at $35/month and comes with human support. See Carly vs Lindy for the head-to-head, or Lindy alternatives for the whole field.

FAQ

What does Lindy AI do?

It’s an AI executive assistant: it triages your Gmail or Outlook inbox, drafts replies in your voice, schedules and reschedules meetings, records and summarizes calls, and sends you daily briefs — operated mostly by texting it over iMessage or SMS.

Is Lindy AI free?

No. The old free plan was discontinued in early 2026; there’s a 7-day trial, then plans run $49.99–$199.99/month depending on usage and features.

Does Lindy AI send emails by itself?

Not from your inbox by default. Replies are saved as drafts for your approval; inbox sorting and labeling happen autonomously; custom-agent actions are controlled by confirmation toggles.

Who is Lindy AI for?

Founders and professionals with moderate email volume who want triage, drafts, and 1:1 scheduling handled and are comfortable approving each send. Heavy users and people with complex multi-party scheduling tend to hit its meter and its limits — see Lindy alternatives.

Is Lindy AI the same as Lindy the agent builder?

Same company, same platform. The agent builder (“Lindies” built from triggers and actions) still exists and powers the enterprise product, but since February 2026 the flagship consumer product is the pre-assembled executive assistant.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
