About the 2026 FIFA World Cup
- Expanded Format — The first World Cup with 48 teams, up from 32. Teams are drawn into 12 groups of 4, with the top two from each group plus the 8 best third-place teams advancing to the Round of 32.
- Group Stage — June 11–28, 2026. Each team plays three group matches to determine standings.
- Round of 32 — New knockout round added for the expanded format, reducing the field from 32 to 16 teams.
- Round of 16 through Final — Single-elimination knockout matches from the Round of 16 through Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and the Final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
- Three Host Nations — The United States hosts 78 matches (including all knockout rounds from the Quarterfinals onward), Mexico hosts 13, and Canada hosts 13.
