Deel is not one of Carly's ~260 native connectors — Gusto, Rippling, and BambooHR are, Deel isn't. Deel connects the bring-your-own-key way, which is a supported path, not a workaround: you generate a token in Deel and paste it into Carly.
In Deel, go to More → Developer → Access Tokens and create a token. You choose between a personal token (scoped to what your own profile can see) and an organization token (scoped to the whole org, and it survives if you leave). You then pick scopes explicitly — contracts:read for agreements, people:read for the worker directory, invoice-adjustments:read for invoice line items, time-off:read for leave requests. Grant only what you want Carly touching. Copy the token when it's shown; Deel won't display it again.
Paste that token at carlyassistant.com/integrations. From then on you email or text Carly the question and she queries Deel and answers in plain language. "Which contracts are still unsigned?" "Who's out the week of the 14th?" "Did Priya's October invoice come through?" She reads exactly the scopes you granted and nothing else.
What Carly will and won't touch in your Deel account
Payroll is not a place for an AI to improvise, so the boundary is deliberate. Carly reads: contract status and terms, the contractor and employee roster, invoice adjustments and their review state, time-off requests and who's out when, timesheets. That's the daily-question surface, and it's where the time goes.
If you grant write scopes, the writes are narrow and specific — submitting a timesheet against a time-based contract (timesheets:write), or filing an invoice adjustment for an expense or equipment line (invoice-adjustments:write). You ask, she does that one thing, and she tells you what she did.
Carly does not run payroll, does not release or approve payments, and does not alter contract terms or compensation. Those stay in Deel with a human clicking the button. Carly's job is to make sure that human isn't the one hunting for the information first.
