Accounting Integration
Ramp AI Assistant — Carly
Carly is a Ramp AI assistant that pulls card spend, flags transactions missing receipts, and adds memos to close out the month — all by email or text. Connect your own Ramp API credentials and stop logging in to answer "what did we spend on this?"
Try Carly →What Carly can do with Ramp
Chase missing receipts automatically
Carly pulls Ramp transactions with no receipt attached, emails each cardholder their own list, and uploads the receipts they reply with against the right transaction.
Ask for spend numbers in plain language
Text Carly "how much went to AWS last quarter?" or "what did the sales team spend in June?" and she queries your Ramp transactions and answers with the breakdown.
Add memos without opening Ramp
Forward Carly the context — "the $840 Hyatt charge was the Denver client trip" — and she writes the memo onto that transaction so the month closes clean.
Get a weekly spend digest by email
Carly sends a recurring summary of card spend: top merchants, largest charges, anything over your threshold, and which transactions are still missing documentation.
What a Ramp AI assistant actually saves you
Ramp already automates the parts of spend management that software is good at — the card, the policy, the accounting sync. What it can't automate is the human loop around it. Somebody still has to notice that six transactions from last week have no receipt attached, figure out whose card they were on, and chase those people down. Somebody still has to answer the founder asking how much went to contractors in June.
That work doesn't happen inside Ramp. It happens in Slack messages, in follow-up emails, in a finance lead's head on the 3rd of the month. Ramp's dashboard is where you look things up; it isn't where the chasing and the summarizing happen. An AI assistant is useful here precisely because it lives outside the dashboard — it can read your Ramp data and then act in email, where the receipt chasing actually takes place.
How Carly connects to Ramp
Ramp is a bring-your-own-key integration. In Ramp, an Admin or Business Owner goes to Settings → Developer, creates an app, adds the Client Credentials grant type, and selects the scopes they want Carly to have — typically transactions:read, receipts:read, receipts:write, memos:read, memos:write, users:read, and merchants:read. Copy the Client ID and Client Secret, then paste them on Carly's integrations page at carlyassistant.com/integrations.
Scopes are the control surface. If you only grant read scopes, Carly can report on spend and nothing else — a good starting posture. Add memos:write and receipts:write when you want her to actually close out transactions rather than just tell you which ones are open. Carly never gets more access than the scopes you check.
After that, you work by message. "How much did we spend on software last month?" "Which transactions from the last two weeks are missing receipts?" "Add the memo 'Q3 offsite catering' to the Tock charge from Thursday." Carly reads your Ramp account, does the thing, and replies.
Receipt chasing is the workflow worth automating
The single most repetitive job in a company running on Ramp is closing the receipt gap. Carly can run it end to end: pull the transactions from the period that have no receipt attached, group them by cardholder, and email each person their own short list with amounts, merchants, and dates. When someone replies with a photo or a PDF, Carly uploads it to Ramp against the right transaction and writes the memo from what they said in the reply.
The reason this works over email is that email is where your team already is. Nobody has to remember a login or open a finance tool to answer "here's the Delta receipt, it was the client trip to Denver." Carly does the same over text.
On the reporting side, she can send a Monday spend digest — top merchants, biggest charges, week-over-week change, anything above a threshold you set — so spend visibility arrives in your inbox instead of waiting for you to go look.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI assistant for Ramp?
Carly connects to Ramp with your own API credentials and lets you query card spend, find transactions missing receipts, upload receipts, and add memos — all by email or text. The advantage over asking an AI chat tool is that Carly works where the receipt chasing already happens: your inbox and your team's inboxes.
How do I connect Ramp to Carly?
Ramp is a bring-your-own-key integration. An Admin or Business Owner in Ramp goes to Settings → Developer, creates an app, adds the Client Credentials grant type, and selects scopes (transactions:read, receipts:read/write, memos:read/write, users:read, merchants:read cover the common workflows). Copy the Client ID and Client Secret and paste them on Carly's integrations page at carlyassistant.com/integrations.
Can Carly spend money or issue cards on my Ramp account?
No. Carly is set up for reading spend and closing out documentation — transactions, receipts, and memos. She does not move money, issue or terminate cards, or approve payments. Scopes are yours to control, and the card and payment scopes are not part of this integration.
Can Carly upload receipts to Ramp?
Yes, with the receipts:write scope. Reply to Carly with a photo or PDF and she uploads it to Ramp and links it to the transaction it belongs to. She can also write the memo at the same time from whatever context you gave her in the reply.
Can Carly answer spend questions over text?
Yes. Carly works over email and text, so "what did we spend on software last month?" or "any charges over $2,000 this week?" gets an answer from your live Ramp transaction data without opening the dashboard.
How much does the Ramp integration cost?
Free Zapier-style workflows; AI agents from $35/month. A scheduled Ramp receipt-gap check that emails cardholders is a workflow. Having Carly read a reply, judge which transaction a receipt belongs to, and write the memo herself is agent work.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
