ChatGPT & Claude (MCP)
How to Make Phone Calls with ChatGPT and Claude
ChatGPT and Claude can make real phone calls once Carly is connected to your team's phone line. In this video Carly calls a cell phone from the chat and holds a live conversation. On the call it explains what it can reach (calendar, email, texts, contacts, tasks, files and accounts), then texts a hello with a short poem and adds a to-do for the day, both done before the call ends. Every call and text is tracked with a summary and a transcript, and the CRM updates based on how the call went. The same setup answers your business line: new customers call the number on your website, the voice agent qualifies them, books meetings onto the team's calendar, and transfers the call live when you'd rather a person take it, following rules you set. Setup is one paste. In Carly, open your team's Phone page, scroll to Use Carly Teams for business calls and texts, and press Copy business setup prompt. Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or whatever assistant you use, and it walks you through connecting, one step at a time. You don't need to know what an MCP is. From there you can build voice, text and email agents right from the chat.
Step by step
- 01
Copy the business setup prompt
In Carly, open your team's Phone page at carlyassistant.com/team/phone and scroll to the bottom, to Use Carly Teams for business calls and texts. Press Copy business setup prompt. Sign in with the Carly account that belongs to your team.
- 02
Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or Grok
Paste the prompt into whichever assistant you use. It walks you through adding the Carly Teams connection and signing in, one step at a time, then lists your team's phone lines to prove it worked. You don't need to know what an MCP is to follow along.
- 03
Ask Carly to call your phone
Ask Carly to call your cell. Pick up and you're talking to Carly live. Ask what it can do, and it runs through your calendar, email, texts, contacts, tasks, files and accounts.
- 04
Ask for things during the call
While you're still on the phone, ask for real work. In the video, Carly texts a hello with a little poem and adds a to-do for today, and both are done before the call ends.
- 05
Review the calls and texts it logged
Every call and text Carly makes is tracked with a summary and a transcript, and your CRM updates on its own based on how the call went.
- 06
Let a voice agent answer your business line
When new business calls the number on your website, the agent answers, qualifies the caller and books the meeting straight onto your team's calendar. If you'd rather a person take it, it transfers the call to your team live. You set the rules, like who calls go to.
- 07
Build voice, text and email agents from the chat
From ChatGPT or Claude you can now set up voice agents, text agents and email agents, so you're not missing calls and leads or forgetting to follow up.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
