How to Stop Claude From Training on Your Data

0:24 · September 22, 2026

Is Claude using your data to train its models? Unless you have turned off one setting, yes. It is a single toggle in your privacy settings and takes about 15 seconds. In Claude, click your name in the bottom left corner, open Settings, then Privacy. Under Preferences, find Help improve our AI models and switch it off. Once that toggle is off, Anthropic does not use your chat conversations to train its models, and your chats and projects keep working exactly as before. It is worth doing if you paste real work into Claude: client emails, drafts, notes from calls. None of that belongs in a training set. The setting is per account, so if you use Claude on more than one account, check each one. ChatGPT has the same default, and the same 20-second fix.

Step by step

  1. 01

Click your name in the bottom left corner

In Claude, your name sits in the bottom left of the sidebar. Click it to open the account menu.

  2. 02

    Open Settings, then Privacy

Choose Settings from the menu, then open the Privacy section.

  3. 03

Turn off Help improve our AI models

Under Preferences, find the toggle labelled Help improve our AI models and switch it off. That is the whole fix. From here on Anthropic does not use your conversations to train its models, and nothing about your chats or projects changes.

  4. 04

Repeat on every Claude account you use

The setting is per account. If you have a personal account and a work account, or you use Claude on more than one email, check each one.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
