Why your platform’s AI can’t do this
Nearly every construction platform now ships something called AI. Procore has Helix, a globally available assistant, prebuilt agents, and Agent Studio. JobTread shipped an AI Connector. Buildertrend has AI-powered Client Updates. All of it is real and useful.
All of it also stops at the platform edge. Procore’s assistant knows Procore. It cannot see the photo that just landed in CompanyCam, the invoice aging in QuickBooks, or the email your client sent this morning. The work that actually costs you money is spread across all of them.
There’s a second limit, and it’s invisible in a demo.
There is no such thing as an MCP trigger. The protocol's own working group states plainly that clients find out about server-side changes by polling for them, and a real event mechanism remains unshipped.
That’s why an assistant answers “which jobs are over budget” when you ask. You already knew how to find that out. Nobody asks on day four, and day four is when the estimate dies.
Construction runs on events. A photo lands, an estimate is approved, a log is filed, an inspection fails. Each one has an obvious next action. Right now each one produces a notification somebody reads at 7pm, if at all.

Two of those rows cut against the obvious assumption.
Buildern has no big developer portal, and connects fine. Software directories list it as having no API at all, which is measurably wrong: Buildern runs a live Zapier app with create and update actions, and a Zapier app can’t exist without an API. A visible developer website was never the test. Whether you can get credentials is the test.
Buildertrend is the honest exception. It runs API-powered Marketplace integrations, but we haven’t verified that an ordinary customer can get general API credentials. If your platform gives you an API key, open Custom API Keys, name it, paste it, save. That’s CompanyCam, JobTread, and usually Buildern.
If your platform uses OAuth, open Custom OAuth and paste the link to the platform’s API docs. Carly reads the documentation and fills in the authorization URL, token URL, and scopes for you. Add the client ID and secret, connect, approve on the platform’s screen. That’s Procore and Jobber.
Carly keeps tokens refreshed and rotated after that. Mishandled refresh tokens are one of the most common reasons integrations quietly die months later.
Your data stays yours
Construction data isn’t something to let an agent improvise with.
Connections are read-only by default. Write access is approved one API path at a time, so /projects and /clients are separate decisions. A path you haven’t approved can’t be written to.
Access is per agent. Giving one agent a connection doesn’t hand it to every other agent.
Credentials are never exposed to AI-generated code. They’re encrypted, isolated to you, and a trusted authentication layer makes the request without revealing the secret to the model. Secrets are redacted from saved results and activity records.

When an estimate has been sent but not accepted after three days, send a useful follow-up, notify me if the client raises a concern, and stop the sequence the moment the status changes.

Probably not. Buildern is listed by directories as having no API and connects fine. The question is whether you can obtain valid credentials, not whether your vendor advertises an API or appears on someone’s integrations page.
