Grok + Follow Up Boss: No Connector, and the Way In

Grok has no Follow Up Boss connector, built in or in its catalog. Your leads, deals and tasks stay in Follow Up Boss, out of Grok’s reach. Add Carly to Grok once and Follow Up Boss comes with it, in the same chat as your mail and calendar.

Where Follow Up Boss sits against Grok’s connector list

Grok’s built-in connectors cover Gmail and Google Calendar, Google Drive, Outlook Mail and Calendar, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint and Salesforce. Its catalog adds apps like Box, GitHub, Notion, Linear and Canva. Follow Up Boss is on neither list, and Grok Bot has no Follow Up Boss plugin either. For a real estate team that is the whole problem, because speed to lead is the job. Grok can read the inquiry that just arrived by email and cannot see whether that person is already a lead, who they are assigned to, or when anyone last called.

Follow Up Boss has not built an MCP server

Grok accepts any public MCP server as a custom connector, but Follow Up Boss has not published one. The most complete server available was built by a working broker and released as free, self-hosted code, which says something about the demand and also means running it yourself on your own API key. Hosted alternatives come from integration platforms like Pipedream and Zapier, each one another account holding that key.

Add Follow Up Boss to Grok through Carly

  1. In Follow Up Boss, go to Admin → API and click Create API Key. Copy it straight away, since existing keys only show their last four digits. Then paste it under Follow Up Boss at carlyassistant.com/integrations.
  2. In Grok, go to grok.com/connectors, click New Connector, then choose Custom.
  3. Enter https://carlyassistant.com/mcp/ and complete the sign-in.
  4. Ask Grok about Follow Up Boss. The Carly connector answers with your live data.

On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin provisions custom connectors in the cloud console before members can use them. In Grok Bot the same server goes in as a plugin: open Plugins from the sidebar, add https://carlyassistant.com/mcp/, and sign in. Your Cursor team’s MCP policy decides whether members can add their own servers.

What Grok can do with Follow Up Boss once Carly is in

  • “Which new leads from this week have had no call or text yet, and who are they assigned to?”
  • “Log today’s showing with Emily Carter and set a follow-up task for Thursday.”
  • “Move the Oak Street deal to Under Contract and tell me what is still open on it.”

With Grok’s Gmail or Outlook connector beside the Carly connector, the inquiry email and the lead record meet in one answer.

The Follow Up Boss work that happens after the chat closes

A connector answers when you ask. Nothing in Grok watches Follow Up Boss.

Since July 2026 Grok can start work on its own two ways: a schedule, or an incoming email matching your filters. Email is the only event it watches. Its connectors to Salesforce, Teams, SharePoint and the rest never fire anything, they wait to be asked inside a conversation. Carly's connections work the other way round. They watch, and they start the work themselves.

Speed to lead is an event problem: the inquiry arrives, and the reply has to go out now. Carly watches for it, sends the first response from the right mailbox, and updates the lead in Follow Up Boss, rather than waiting for someone to open a chat.

Carly connects to thousands of apps, so the same connection that brings Follow Up Boss into Grok also reaches Gmail, Outlook, your calendars and your booking pages. Free Zapier-style workflows; AI agents from $35/month. Get started at carlyassistant.com.

What people report going wrong with Grok’s custom connectors

Custom connectors are young, and two public reports are worth knowing about before you depend on one. A thread on Cursor’s community forum, opened on 14 August 2026, describes custom MCP servers in Grok Bot hanging and taking every other connector down with a DeadlineExceeded error, while staying invisible in the Plugins screen so they could not be removed. More than twenty people reported the same problem before Cursor shipped a self-service fix on 7 September. Separately, an issue opened in May 2026 on the GitHub tracker for Plane, the project management tool, describes Grok’s custom connector sitting on “Connecting…” indefinitely after sign-in, and it is still open.

If a connection stalls, remove it at grok.com/connectors and add it again before assuming the server is at fault.

FAQ

Does Grok have a Follow Up Boss connector? No. Follow Up Boss is not among Grok’s built-in connectors (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint and Salesforce) or in its catalog. The way to bring it into Grok is a custom connector, and Carly’s is https://carlyassistant.com/mcp/.

Can Grok Bot work with Follow Up Boss? Not through a plugin of its own, because Grok Bot’s plugin list has no Follow Up Boss entry. Add Carly as a plugin with https://carlyassistant.com/mcp/ and Grok Bot reaches Follow Up Boss through it.

Where do I find my Follow Up Boss API key? Under Admin → API. Existing keys only show their last four digits, so create a new one with Create API Key and copy it at that moment.

How do I connect Follow Up Boss to Carly? Create an API key under Admin → API in Follow Up Boss, then paste it at carlyassistant.com/integrations.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
