How to Fix "Need Admin Approval" in Microsoft 365
"Need admin approval" appears when your company's Microsoft 365 settings require an IT admin to approve an app before anyone can connect it to their email or calendar. Getting past it takes one step from your admin: they open the app's admin setup page, sign in to Microsoft, and grant consent for the organization. For Carly that page is carlyassistant.com/admin-setup, and it lists every permission requested: calendar, Teams, mail, OneDrive and contacts. Granting consent does not hand the app everyone's mailbox. These are delegated permissions, so the app acts only for the person who connected it and only within what that person can already reach. Each person still decides whether to connect. Admins who want a smaller rollout can limit the app to a few users in Microsoft Entra, and can revoke all of its permissions from the Microsoft side at any time.

Send your IT admin the app's admin setup page
For Carly that's carlyassistant.com/admin-setup. It lists every permission the app requests: calendar, Teams, mail, OneDrive and contacts, so your admin can see exactly what they are approving.

Your admin grants consent for the organization
They click one button, sign in to Microsoft, and grant admin consent. That removes the block for your company.

Connect your email and calendar again
Go back and connect your Outlook email and calendar. The "Need admin approval" screen is gone.

Know what consent does and doesn't allow
Organization-wide consent does not give the app access to everyone's mail and calendars. The permissions are delegated: the app acts on behalf of the person who connected it, within what they can already access. You can approve an app and have nobody sign up.

If you're the admin, limit who can use it
Piloting with a few people? You don't have to grant organization-wide consent. In Microsoft Entra you can restrict the app to specific users, and you can revoke all of its permissions at any time.
