Claude + Givebutter: What the Official Connector Does
Yes, Givebutter has an official Claude connector, and it’s read-only. Claude can answer questions about your donors, transactions and campaigns, but it can’t add a contact, tag a donor or record a check. Add Carly and Claude can do those too, and your thank-you emails go out on their own.
What the Givebutter connector does
Givebutter’s connector is listed in Claude’s connector directory, and Givebutter runs it at mcp.givebutter.com. It gives Claude four tools, and Givebutter’s own documentation says all of them “can never modify your account”:
- Who am I confirms which Givebutter account Claude is connected to.
- Help center searches Givebutter’s help articles for how-to answers.
- Entity context looks up which fields exist on contacts, transactions and other data.
- Query runs filtered searches and totals, such as donations by month or donors above an amount.
Each connection covers exactly one Givebutter account, chosen when you sign in. Account admins see every active connection under Settings → AI, and can disconnect them or turn AI connectors off for the whole account.
How to connect Givebutter to Claude
- Add the Givebutter connector. In Claude, open Customize → Connectors, find Givebutter, click Connect and sign in to Givebutter. On a Team plan, members who can’t add connectors see Request, which asks an admin.
- For changes and automation, connect Givebutter in Carly. In Givebutter, go to Settings → Integrations → API Keys, click New API key and copy it. Then in Carly, go to Integrations → Connect an API and connect Givebutter there.
- Add Carly to Claude. Click Get the Carly connector, then Connect, and sign in.
Givebutter’s API, unlike the connector, can write: contacts and tags, households, contact activities, transactions, campaigns, funds and discount codes.
What Claude can do with Givebutter
With the Givebutter connector alone:
- “How much did the spring gala campaign raise, and from how many donors?”
- “Who gave more than $500 this year but nothing in the last six months?”
With Carly in as well:
- “Add Michael Bennett as a contact and tag him Gala 2026 table captain.”
- “Record Claire Thompson’s $500 check to the Annual Fund.”
- “Put Josh and Emily Whitaker in the same household.”
Where Claude stops
Claude answers when you ask. Its scheduled tasks run on a clock, and no donation can start one. A first-time donor who should hear from you today, a board chair who wants Monday’s numbers, a recurring donor whose card failed: all of it waits for someone to open a chat.
Carly handles those, in the cloud, on a schedule you set or when an email comes in:
- When a donation notification email arrives, send the donor a personal thank-you from your own email within the hour.
- Every Monday at 8, email the board chair last week’s total raised by campaign.
- When someone gives for the first time, tag them in Givebutter and add a welcome call to your calendar.
- On January 5, email every donor a personal note with their total giving last year.
Carly connects to thousands of apps, so the same workflow can update your accounting, your newsletter list or your team’s Slack. You set it up in plain English. Routine steps run as free Zapier-style workflows; work that needs judgment runs as an AI agent. Free Zapier-style workflows; AI agents from $35/month. Get started with Carly.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
