Gmail and Outlook inboxes from several accounts reaching one Claude conversation

Can Claude Connect to Multiple Email Accounts?

Only one of each. Claude’s Gmail connector holds a single Google account and its Microsoft 365 connector holds a single work account, so Claude can see one Gmail and one Outlook side by side. A second account of either kind replaces the first, and personal Outlook.com or Hotmail addresses cannot be connected at all.

With Carly, Claude gets all of them. Add the Carly connector in Claude and it works across all your Gmail and Outlook inboxes at once.

Do this instead

  1. Connect every inbox at carlyassistant.com/integrations: Gmail and Outlook, personal and work, your own domains and your clients’.
  2. Click Get the Carly connector, then Connect, and sign in with your Carly account.
  3. Ask across all of them at once:

Check all my inboxes for anything about the Q4 renewal and tell me what still needs a reply today.

That is the whole setup. Get started at carlyassistant.com.

What Claude’s own connectors can hold

The limit is per connector, not per person. Gmail and Microsoft 365 are separate connectors, so you get one account on each and nothing more:

Claude on its ownClaude + Carly
Gmail accounts at onceOneAll of them
Microsoft 365 work accounts at onceOneAll of them
Gmail and Outlook togetherOne of eachAll of them
Personal Outlook.com or HotmailCannot connectYes
Sends with attachmentsNoYes
Starts work when mail arrivesNoYes

Two details catch people out. A second Google sign-in swaps out Gmail, Calendar and Drive together, because one grant covers all three. And the Microsoft side needs a Microsoft Entra Global Administrator to consent before anyone in the organization can connect, so a client’s tenant is usually out of reach even as your one Outlook slot. Anthropic’s Microsoft 365 setup guide also rules out personal Microsoft accounts by name.

Connector authorization is per account, not per person. Claude and Gemini each hold one Google account at a time, so the second inbox is reachable only by replacing the first. Anthropic has an open feature request asking for several named accounts on one connector, which is a fair signal it is not possible today. Carly carries all of them at once.

The missing inbox fails quietly

Claude answers from the accounts it holds and says nothing about the rest. Josh runs a personal Gmail, his firm’s Microsoft 365 and a client’s tenant. Ask Claude “did anyone send back the signed contract?” and he gets a confident no from two of the three, while the contract sits in the client mailbox Claude never connected. Nothing in the reply tells him a third inbox exists.

Switching accounts does not fix it either. Signing out and back in gives you the inboxes one at a time, so the questions worth asking stay out of reach: one client across every address you own, a morning brief that covers all of them, a thread in one company’s mail checked against another’s.

One Gmail and one Outlook still behave differently

Even the pair Claude allows does not act like one inbox. The Gmail connector sends, replies and forwards after you approve each one, with no administrator involved, though it reads only the metadata of attachments, not their contents. The Microsoft 365 side has its own rules:

Send mail, manage drafts and calendar events, update mailbox settings, create and update OneDrive and SharePoint files, post in Teams. That is the write list on Claude's Microsoft 365 connector, and every item on it comes with the same three caveats: blocked by default for older organizations, no attachments, and confirmation on each send. Carly carries the same actions across all of your accounts and runs them when you are not there.

So “reply to everything urgent across my inboxes” goes through in Gmail and stalls in Outlook until an admin has switched the write tools on. Through Carly, Gmail and Outlook take the same requests and send the same way.

What you can automate across all of them

Carly also works your inboxes when no chat is open. Work starts the moment mail lands, in every account you connect. A few of the automations you can turn on:

  • Text me when an urgent email arrives. A real person waiting on you, a hard deadline or money on the line sends a text to your phone. Routine mail stays quiet.
  • Triage and file every email. Each message gets one of your existing Gmail labels or Outlook categories, or moves to an Outlook folder. Anything Carly is unsure about is left alone, and nothing is deleted.
  • Draft replies to the emails that need you. Carly reads the whole thread and saves a reply in your voice to Drafts. Newsletters and automated mail are skipped.
  • Get an inbox brief on your schedule. New mail is sorted into urgent, action needed and FYI, with older unread mail as a single count.
  • Chase threads that went quiet. Every weekday morning Carly finds threads where you sent the last message, drafts a follow-up and tells you it is ready.
  • Turn mail into tasks and tickets. Mail from a sender you choose becomes a Todoist or Google task, and a support request becomes a Zendesk ticket with a suggested reply.

Carly connects to thousands of apps, so the far end of any automation can be a tool you already pay for. Browse more at carlyassistant.com/workflows.

What Claude reaches once Carly is connected

  • All your inboxes in one question. Gmail and Outlook, personal and work, with no reauthorizing between them.
  • Personal Outlook.com and Hotmail. The addresses Claude’s Microsoft 365 connector refuses connect to Carly like any other mailbox.
  • Shared mailboxes as real mailboxes. Claude’s Microsoft 365 connector can search a shared mailbox you are delegated to. With Carly, billing@ or support@ connects on its own and Carly replies from it.
  • Every calendar on both sides, so “find a time next week” checks all of them before booking.
  • It sends with attachments. The contract, the invoice, the deck.

Frequently asked questions

Can I connect multiple emails to Claude?

Two at most, and only if one is Gmail and the other is a Microsoft 365 work account, because each connector holds a single account. Connect every inbox to Carly and add the Carly connector once, and Claude reaches all of them in one conversation.

Can I connect 2 Gmail accounts to Claude?

No. The second sign-in replaces the first, along with its Calendar and Drive. Carly holds both side by side. The Gmail-only answer is here: Can Claude connect to multiple Gmail accounts?

Can you connect multiple Google accounts to Claude?

Not natively. One Google grant covers Gmail, Calendar and Drive for one account, so adding a second swaps out all three. Calendars shared into the connected account still show up, as covered in Can Claude connect to multiple Google Calendar accounts?

Can I connect Gmail and Outlook to Claude at the same time?

Yes, one of each, because they are separate connectors. The Outlook side needs a work account on a Microsoft Entra tenant plus an administrator’s consent, and its write tools stay off until an admin enables them. Through Carly, both providers connect from the same page and behave the same way.

Can I connect a personal Outlook or Hotmail account to Claude?

Not through the Microsoft 365 connector, which requires a work account tied to a Microsoft business plan. Connect it to Carly and Claude reaches it beside your Gmail. For several work tenants, see Can Claude connect to multiple Outlook accounts?

Did the September 2026 Claude update change this?

No. Anthropic brought Cowork into every Claude conversation on September 16, 2026, and your connectors carried over with the same one-account rule. Claude’s release notes through September 28 show no multi-account change.

How many inboxes can Carly hold?

As many as you connect at carlyassistant.com/integrations. Add a client’s mailbox when the engagement starts and remove it when the work ends, without touching the others.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
