Gemini Statistics 2026: Users, Usage and Market Share

The Gemini app passed 1 billion monthly users on August 11, 2026, making it the fastest-growing product in Google’s history (Google, 2026). 24% of U.S. adults say they use Gemini, second only to ChatGPT at 44% (Pew Research Center, surveyed February 2026). And 25.6% of worldwide visits to generative AI websites went to Gemini in August 2026, up from 12.9% a year earlier (Similarweb, 2026).

Google reports Gemini app users, tokens and enterprise adoption most quarters, but no Gemini revenue. AI Overviews and AI Mode in Search have separate, larger user counts that often get mixed into Gemini’s.

How many people use Gemini?

More than 1 billion monthly users on the Gemini app as of August 11, 2026 (Google, 2026). Three weeks earlier, on Alphabet’s second-quarter call, the figure was 950 million monthly active users, with daily active users tripling over the previous year (Alphabet, July 2026).

The April 29, 2026 earnings call gave no user count (Alphabet, 2026).

35 million daily active users in March 2025, up from 9 million in October 2024, per the same court data (TechCrunch, 2025). Google has since given daily-user growth rates, not counts.

662 million monthly users of Gemini across apps and web in May 2026, by Sensor Tower’s estimate, behind ChatGPT’s 1.1 billion and ahead of Claude’s 245 million (Sensor Tower via TechCrunch, June 2026). That is well below the 900 million Google announced the same month; Sensor Tower models unique people from a panel.

2.6 billion visits to gemini.google.com in August 2026, up 148% in a year, the 16th most visited website worldwide (Similarweb, September 2026). Visits are sessions, not people.

24% of U.S. adults say they use Gemini: 30% of those 18 to 29, 34% of those 30 to 49, 20% of those 50 to 64 and 11% of those 65 and older (Pew, surveyed February 17 to 23, 2026). Unlike ChatGPT, Gemini is used more by 30-to-49-year-olds than by adults under 30.

23% of U.S. teens ages 13 to 17 use Gemini, against 59% for ChatGPT (Pew Research Center, December 2025). ChatGPT’s full numbers are in ChatGPT statistics, Claude’s in Claude statistics, and AI use overall in how many people use AI.

Gemini app downloads and engagement

185.4 million downloads of the Gemini app from its February 2024 Android launch to mid-September 2025, 103.7 million of them in 2025 alone, according to Appfigures (TechCrunch, September 2025). Gemini comes preinstalled on many Android phones, which download counts don’t capture.

No. 1 on the U.S. App Store on September 12, 2025, after the Nano Banana image model went viral (Appfigures via TechCrunch, 2025).

137 million iOS downloads in the 12 months to July 2026, according to Appfigures (TechCrunch, July 2026). Google says Gemini has more than 100 million active users on iOS (Google, August 2026).

About 100 minutes per user per month in the Gemini app, against about 215 for ChatGPT and 120 for Claude, in Sensor Tower’s State of AI 2026 data (Sensor Tower, 2026).

63% of Gemini app users talk to it by voice, and it generates more than 150 million images a day (Google, August 2026). Daily requests to the app grew more than sevenfold in the year to May 2026 (Google I/O 2026).

AI Overviews and AI Mode users (not the Gemini app)

AI Overviews and AI Mode are features of Google Search that run on Gemini models. Their users are counted separately from the Gemini app and are not part of its 1 billion.

Gemini tokens, developers and API usage

Over 3.2 quadrillion tokens a month were being processed across Google’s surfaces in May 2026, up from 480 trillion a year earlier and 9.7 trillion two years earlier (Google I/O 2026).

Sources: Google I/O keynotes and Alphabet’s quarterly CEO remarks. At 22 billion a minute, API traffic alone is roughly 950 trillion tokens a month (our arithmetic).

78% cut in Gemini serving unit costs during 2025, CEO Sundar Pichai said in February 2026 (Alphabet, 2026).

More than 9 million developers build with Google’s models each month across its APIs and developer products (Alphabet, July 2026), up from 8.5 million in May 2026. Earlier figures were not monthly counts, so don’t compare them directly: 4.4 million developers “using” Gemini in February 2025 (Alphabet) and more than 13 million who had “built with” Google’s generative models by October 2025.

2.4 million weekly active users on Antigravity, Google’s agentic coding platform, in July 2026, up from 1.5 million in February (Alphabet, 2026).

Gemini Enterprise, Google Cloud customers and Workspace

Nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 use Gemini Enterprise, Google’s workplace agent platform, as of July 2026 (Alphabet, 2026).

  • 2 million subscribers across 700 companies in October 2025, weeks after Gemini Enterprise launched (Alphabet, 2025).
  • More than 8 million paid seats sold to more than 2,800 companies by February 2026 (Alphabet, 2026).
  • 40% quarter-over-quarter growth in paid monthly active users in the first quarter of 2026 (Alphabet, April 2026). How Gemini Enterprise fits with Google’s agent tools is in Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.

More than 120,000 enterprises use Gemini, Google said in February 2026, up from more than 85,000 building with it in July 2025 (Alphabet, 2026 and 2025).

Nearly 500 Google Cloud customers each processed more than 1 trillion tokens in the 12 months to July 2026, up from 330 in April 2026 and nearly 150 in October 2025 (Alphabet, 2026).

Nearly 800% year-over-year growth in revenue from products built on Google’s generative AI models in the first quarter of 2026, after nearly 400% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and more than 200% in the third. Google gives no dollar amounts for this line (Alphabet, 2025 and 2026).

More than 2 billion AI assists a month in Google Workspace, such as Gmail summaries and Docs edits, in April 2025 (Alphabet, 2025). The Gemini features themselves are covered in Gemini in Gmail and Google Calendar AI features. For people whose week runs on Gmail, Google Calendar and Outlook at once, Carly handles email and scheduling across all of their Google and Microsoft accounts together.

Gemini market share

Gemini ranks second on five of the six measures below and third on enterprise API usage. Why the measures disagree is covered in LLM market share.

Web traffic. Gemini’s share of generative AI site visits went from 12.9% in August 2025 to 21.5% on January 2, 2026 (Similarweb) and 27.8% in May 2026, before easing to 25.6% in August (Similarweb, 2026). Similarweb counts browser visits only, which undercounts Gemini on Android.

Referral clicks. Gemini’s share of the clicks chatbots send to other websites rose from 2.8% in September 2025 to 10.91% in September 2026 (StatCounter, 2026).

Enterprise API spend. Google’s share rose from 7% in 2023 to 20% in mid-2025 and 21% in late 2025 (Menlo Ventures, 2025), from a survey of 495 U.S. enterprise decision-makers. Menlo is an Anthropic investor.

Developer traffic. OpenRouter’s rankings count requests routed through its API marketplace, which favors cheap, high-volume models. In Stack Overflow’s 2025 survey, 35.3% of developers had used Gemini Flash for development work (Stack Overflow, 2025). Head-to-head comparisons are in Gemini vs ChatGPT.

Alphabet AI business: Cloud revenue, backlog and capex

Google Cloud revenue covers infrastructure, platform services and Google Workspace. In the first quarter of 2026, Alphabet said enterprise AI had become Cloud’s main growth driver for the first time, which makes Cloud the closest public proxy for Gemini’s business revenue.

$91.4 billion in capital expenditures in 2025, up from $52.5 billion in 2024 (Alphabet, February 2026).

$195 billion to $205 billion is Alphabet’s 2026 capex guidance, raised on July 22, 2026 from $180 billion to $190 billion (set in April) and $175 billion to $185 billion (set in February), “primarily due to an acceleration in the delivery of capacity,” said CFO Anat Ashkenazi (CNBC, 2026). Second-quarter capex was $44.9 billion, double a year earlier, and free cash flow for the quarter was negative $5.9 billion (Alphabet, 2026).

$80 billion in planned equity offerings, announced June 1, 2026 to fund AI compute, including $10 billion from Berkshire Hathaway (Alphabet, 2026).

350 million paid subscriptions across Google’s consumer services in April 2026, led by YouTube and Google One (Alphabet, 2026). Alphabet does not say how many of those are Gemini or other Google AI plans.

  • “Gemini had 350 million monthly users, per Alphabet’s Q1 2025 earnings filing.” The number is real, but it came from Google data shown at its antitrust trial. Alphabet’s Q1 2025 release has no Gemini app count.
  • “Gemini had about 450 million monthly users at the start of 2025.” 450 million is Google’s July 2025 figure. In March 2025 the court data put it at 350 million.
  • “Gemini reaches 2.5 billion people a month.” That is AI Overviews in Google Search (May 2026). The Gemini app passed 1 billion in August 2026.
  • “Gemini handles 85 billion API requests a month as of January 2026.” The Information reported roughly 85 billion for August 2025, as The Decoder summarized in January 2026. Google publishes tokens per minute, not requests.
  • “Gemini earned about $1.2 billion from subscriptions in 2025.” Stats sites credit “industry experts.” Alphabet does not break Gemini out of its “Google subscriptions, platforms, and devices” line ($12.9 billion in Q2 2026).
  • “40% of Gemini users research, 30% create content, 20% work or study, 10% play.” No survey is named, and the original wording says Bard, so it predates February 2024.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
