Claude Statistics 2026: Users, Revenue and Valuation
Anthropic’s run-rate revenue reached $65 billion at the end of July 2026, about seven times its level a year earlier (CNBC, 2026). Its last private round valued the company at $965 billion post-money (Anthropic, May 2026). Claude had an estimated 245 million monthly users across web and mobile in May 2026 (Sensor Tower via TechCrunch, 2026), an outside estimate, because Anthropic has never published a user count.
Anthropic reports revenue, customers and funding, but not users. Every user figure below is a labelled third-party estimate or survey, and every number carries its month.

How many people use Claude?
No official total exists. In March 2026 an Anthropic spokesperson told TechCrunch only that Claude’s paid subscriptions had “more than doubled” since January 1, 2026.
245 million monthly users worldwide in May 2026, behind ChatGPT (over 1.1 billion) and Gemini (662 million), per Sensor Tower’s State of AI 2026 report (TechCrunch, June 2026). Its “True Audience” is a panel-based model of unique people across apps and web, not a company count.
452% year-over-year growth in Claude’s True Audience in May 2026, which Sensor Tower called the fastest growth of any ChatGPT challenger (Sensor Tower, 2026).
13% of Anthropic’s users pay for a subscription, a conversion rate that leads the AI assistant field in Sensor Tower’s data (TechCrunch, June 2026).
111 million unique visitors went to claude.ai in August 2026, up from 16.8 million a year earlier, according to Similarweb’s pre-IPO report on Anthropic (PPC Land, September 2026). That counts website visitors only, not app or Claude Code users.
6% of U.S. adults say they ever use Claude, against 44% for ChatGPT and 24% for Gemini. Use falls with age: 10% of adults 18 to 29, 9% of those 30 to 49, 4% of those 50 to 64 and 1% of those 65 and older (Pew Research Center, surveyed February 2026). ChatGPT’s numbers are in ChatGPT statistics.
Claude traffic, app downloads and retention
950.2 million visits to claude.ai in August 2026, making it the 35th most visited website in the world, with traffic more than six times higher than a year earlier (Similarweb, 2026). Visits are an estimate of sessions, not people.
640% year-over-year growth in Claude’s monthly app usage by May 2026, against 62% for ChatGPT (Sensor Tower via CNBC, June 2026).
No. 1 on the U.S. App Store the weekend of February 28, 2026, the first time Claude out-downloaded ChatGPT in the U.S., after Anthropic declined a Pentagon partnership that OpenAI signed (CNBC, 2026). It held the daily lead through March 5 (Sensor Tower, 2026).
44.8% of people who started using claude.ai in February 2026 were still active six months later, up from 25.8% for the January 2025 group. ChatGPT’s comparable rate is 59% (Similarweb, September 2026).
Anthropic revenue by year
Anthropic has not filed publicly, so its annual results come from a confidential IPO prospectus that Reuters reviewed in September 2026.
$4.59 billion in revenue in 2025, up from $386 million in 2024, roughly 12-fold (Reuters via CNBC; exact figures from Capital Brief, 2026).
$8.06 billion operating loss in 2025, up from $2.98 billion. The net loss was $41.97 billion, of which about $34 billion was an accounting charge tied to financing that could convert into shares, not cash spent (Reuters and Capital Brief, 2026).
$7.33 billion went to compute and infrastructure in 2025, more than half of $12.65 billion in total operating expenses (Reuters, 2026).
Nearly a quarter of 2025 revenue came from just two customers, Anthropic said in the prospectus (Reuters, 2026).
$11.5 billion in preliminary second-quarter 2026 revenue, up 14-fold from a year earlier, per a source who spoke to CNBC (CNBC, August 2026). Some outlets report $11.6 billion; Anthropic has confirmed neither.
$4.8 billion in first-quarter 2026 revenue was what Anthropic told investors, along with a projection of $10.9 billion in the second quarter and a first operating profit of $559 million, The Wall Street Journal reported in May 2026. The profit figure is a forecast; no actual quarterly profit has been published.
Anthropic run-rate revenue timeline
Run rate is not annual revenue. Anthropic multiplies the last 28 days of usage-based sales by 13, multiplies monthly subscription revenue by 12, and adds the two, according to a person familiar with the formula cited by Reuters Breakingviews (2026). With sales rising every month, that is how 2025 could total $4.59 billion yet end at a $9 billion run rate.
| As of | Run-rate revenue | Who said it |
|---|---|---|
| Start of 2025 | About $1 billion | Anthropic |
| August 2025 | Over $5 billion | Anthropic |
| End of 2025 | About $9 billion | Anthropic |
| February 12, 2026 | $14 billion | Anthropic |
| April 6, 2026 | Over $30 billion | Anthropic |
| Early May 2026 | Over $47 billion | Anthropic |
| End of July 2026 | $65 billion | Investor update, reported by Bloomberg and confirmed by CNBC |
80x annualized growth in first-quarter 2026 revenue and usage, against the 10x Anthropic had planned for, said CEO Dario Amodei at the Code with Claude conference on May 6, 2026 (InfoQ, 2026).
Anthropic valuation and funding rounds
$965 billion post-money valuation after a $65 billion Series H on May 28, 2026, which put Anthropic above OpenAI’s $852 billion valuation from March (CNBC, 2026). The round included $15 billion of previously committed investment from cloud providers, $5 billion of it from Amazon (Anthropic, 2026).
| Announced | Round | Amount | Led by | Post-money valuation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May 23, 2023 | Series C | $450 million | Spark Capital | Not disclosed |
| Sep 25, 2023 | Amazon | Up to $4 billion | Amazon | Not disclosed |
| Nov 22, 2024 | Amazon | $4 billion ($8 billion total) | Amazon | Not disclosed |
| Mar 3, 2025 | Series E | $3.5 billion | Lightspeed | $61.5 billion |
| Sep 2, 2025 | Series F | $13 billion | ICONIQ | $183 billion |
| Nov 18, 2025 | Microsoft and NVIDIA | Up to $15 billion | Microsoft ($5B), NVIDIA ($10B) | Not disclosed |
| Feb 12, 2026 | Series G | $30 billion | GIC and Coatue | $380 billion |
| May 28, 2026 | Series H | $65 billion | Altimeter, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, Sequoia | $965 billion |
More than $2 trillion is the valuation an IPO could reach, Reuters reported in September 2026, with a listing likely after the November U.S. midterm elections (Reuters via CNBC, 2026). The prospectus Reuters reviewed has not been made public: as of October 4, 2026, no Anthropic S-1 appears on the SEC’s EDGAR system.
Claude market share
Each source measures something different, which is why the numbers range from under 1% to 40%.
40% of enterprise LLM API spend went to Anthropic in late 2025, up from 24% a year earlier and 12% in 2023, with OpenAI at 27% and Google at 21% (Menlo Ventures, December 2025). In coding, Anthropic’s share was 54%. The estimate combines a survey of 495 U.S. enterprise AI decision-makers with a market model, and Menlo Ventures is an Anthropic investor.
10.3% of the global AI assistant audience used Claude at the end of May 2026, against 46.4% for ChatGPT and 27.7% for Gemini (Sensor Tower via TechCrunch, 2026). Claude’s U.S. share rose from 4.4% to nearly 14% over the year to May (Sensor Tower, 2026).
9.6% of website visits among the major AI chatbot sites went to claude.ai in August 2026, up from 2% a year earlier, while ChatGPT fell from 78% to 57% (Similarweb, September 2026). Similarweb’s full report calls this a share of six sites’ traffic, not a market share (PPC Land, 2026).
0.95% worldwide and 1.81% in the U.S. is Claude’s share in September 2026 by StatCounter’s measure (2026). StatCounter counts clicks that chatbots send to websites running its tracker, so it measures referral traffic, not how much people use each chatbot.
2.7% of text requests on OpenRouter went to Anthropic models in the week beginning September 21, 2026, seventh among model makers (OpenRouter, 2026). OpenRouter is a developer API router where low-cost open models dominate request counts, and it does not see Claude traffic that goes directly to Anthropic or through Amazon’s and Google’s clouds.
Claude Code statistics
Over $500 million in Claude Code run-rate revenue by September 2025, with usage up more than 10x in three months (Anthropic, 2025).
$1 billion run rate in November 2025, six months after Claude Code became generally available (Anthropic, December 2025).
Over $2.5 billion run rate by February 12, 2026, more than double the figure at the start of the year. Weekly active users doubled over the same six weeks, business subscriptions quadrupled, and enterprises accounted for more than half of Claude Code revenue (Anthropic, February 2026). That is Anthropic’s most recent stated Claude Code figure.
4% of public GitHub commits worldwide were authored by Claude Code in early 2026, by an estimate from SemiAnalysis that Anthropic cited (2026).
Plans and costs are in Claude Code pricing.
Anthropic business customers
More than 300,000 business customers by September 2025, the latest total count Anthropic has stated (Anthropic, 2025).
More than 1,000 customers each spent over $1 million a year by April 6, 2026, up from over 500 in February 2026 and about a dozen two years earlier (Anthropic, 2026).
8 of the Fortune 10 were Claude customers in February 2026, and customers spending over $100,000 a year had grown 7x in a year (Anthropic, 2026).
How people use Claude
These figures come from the Anthropic Economic Index, Anthropic’s own privacy-preserving study of sampled Claude conversations.
52% of Claude.ai conversations were augmentation (people working with Claude) and 45% were automation (Claude doing the task) in November 2025, reversing August 2025, when automation led 49% to 47% (Anthropic Economic Index, January 2026).
35% of Claude.ai conversations in February 2026 were tasks from computer and mathematical occupations, still the largest category, while the top 10 tasks fell to 19% of traffic from 24% in November 2025 (Anthropic Economic Index, March 2026).
About 49% of jobs have now had at least a quarter of their tasks performed using Claude (Anthropic, March 2026).
The U.S., India, Japan, the U.K. and South Korea lead in total Claude.ai use (Anthropic, January 2026). The top 20 countries account for 48% of per-capita usage, up from 45% (Anthropic, March 2026).
Around 35% of chat and Cowork conversations are personal on weekdays, rising to just under 50% on weekends, in data from April 10 to June 10, 2026 (Anthropic Economic Index, June 2026). In those conversations, explanations (17%), documents and reports (15%) and guidance (11%) are the most common things Claude produces.
Over a third of about 9,700 Claude users surveyed expect AI to be able to do most or nearly all of their work tasks within a year (Anthropic Economic Index Survey, June 2026). Respondents skew heavily toward technical and management jobs.
10 to 11 a.m. local time is when business correspondence such as email drafting peaks (Anthropic, June 2026). Claude can work across your email and calendars, in all of your Google and Microsoft accounts at once, through the Carly connector from Carly. The Claude Skills guide covers other ways to extend it.

Popular numbers we couldn’t verify
- “Claude has 18.9 million monthly active users.” Repeated on many stats pages. The trail ends at Backlinko, whose page rests on Semrush website-visitor estimates from late 2024 and early 2025. It predates Claude’s 2026 growth and was never an Anthropic figure.
- “271.3 million monthly active users” and “11.3 million monthly Claude Code users.” From DemandSage, with no method or primary source given.
- “Anthropic made about $10 billion in 2025.” CNBC used this phrase in August 2026. The prospectus figure Reuters later reported is $4.59 billion; $9 billion to $10 billion was the year-end run rate.
- Claude Code at $8 billion or $15 billion in run-rate revenue. These come from revenue trackers and forecasts. Anthropic’s last stated figure is over $2.5 billion, from February 2026.
- Anthropic headcount (2,300, 2,500 or 5,000 employees). Anthropic does not publish a figure, and coverage of the prospectus has not quoted one.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
