Goodcall: AI Answering Service Pricing and Alternatives

Goodcall is an AI answering service for small businesses. It started inside Google in 2017, and its pitch today is that you never configure anything: you describe your business to Gabi, Goodcall’s builder agent, and Gabi builds the phone agent that answers your calls.

Its pricing is unusual too. Goodcall does not count minutes or calls. It counts callers.

The quick answer: Goodcall answers your business line 24/7 with an AI agent that qualifies callers, books them on your calendar, sends you the lead by text and email, and logs the call to your CRM. It costs $79 a month for 100 unique callers, $129 for 500 and $299 for 2,000, with no per-minute charges, and you can try a free demo agent before connecting a number. Trustpilot reviews sit at 2.5 out of 5, mostly over billing. If you want calls, texts and email answered from one team inbox, with the setup done for you, Carly is the better fit.

How Goodcall works

You tell Gabi about your business, by typing or talking, or hand it your website. Gabi writes the greeting, the questions and the steps, runs practice calls on the hard cases (a caller who wants a price, an emergency at midnight), and publishes the agent when you approve. To change anything later, you tell Gabi in plain English.

On a call, the agent:

  • Triages new customers, existing ones, urgent calls and spam
  • Qualifies with your questions: what they need, where, when, budget
  • Books on your calendar and texts everyone the details
  • Sends the lead to you by text and email as the call ends, and to HighLevel or your own system
  • Answers stock and order questions once your store system is connected

Each agent is built from “workers,” one specialist each (a booker, a message taker, a knowledge expert), and the plan sets how many you can add. You also pick a voice and a name. Goodcall’s own demo agent is called Rosie, which has nothing to do with the Rosie AI answering service.

A unique caller is one phone number in one month. If the same customer calls five times in March, that is one. Spam and wrong numbers do not count, and a nine-minute booking costs the same as a thirty-second call. Test calls against your agent come from a separate allowance you can top up $5 at a time.

Take Josh Whitaker’s plumbing company: 400 calls a month from about 280 different people. That fits Growth at $129. On Starter it would be $79 plus 180 extra callers at 79 cents, about $221, so Growth is the cheaper plan.

What users report

Goodcall scores 2.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot. The complaints that are about Goodcall’s service are about price changes:

  • June 2026: a customer says the bill went from $59 to $99 a month, then to $130, without notice, and that three emails about it went unanswered.
  • December 2023: a customer who had been promised a free account forever says access to voicemails moved behind a roughly $60 monthly plan after their number was already on their listings.

Another review is from a caller, not a customer, who disliked reaching a business’s AI agent that pitched services before it helped. That is about how one business set its agent up, but it is a reminder that the caller hears whatever script you approve.

1. Carly

Carly answers the phone and then does the rest of the job.

  • One inbox for calls, texts and email, shared by your whole team, so the customer who called this morning and emailed this afternoon is one conversation.
  • Answers when nobody can, around the clock or after hours, qualifies the caller, books them on the right person’s calendar and hands off when a person should take it.
  • Detects Spanish and answers in Spanish, with no phone menu.
  • Texts back missed calls and calls new web leads from your business number the moment they arrive.
  • Follows through: the follow-up goes out when the call ends, the job lands in your CRM, and the summary and transcript sit on the customer’s record.
  • Works from ChatGPT or Claude: add the Carly connector and ask it to call or text a customer from your team line (how it works).

The Carly team sets up your line with you, on your own Twilio line or a new number, and prices it on a short call. Everything else: free Zapier-style workflows; AI agents from $35/month.

2. Rosie

Rosie is the closest self-serve match: AI answering for small businesses from $49 a month for 250 minutes, with booking and warm transfers from $149.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
