How to Connect Postmark to an AI Agent
Postmark is the transactional email service that just works. Receipts, password resets, magic links, account notifications. Postmark gets them to the inbox fast and keeps deliverability clean. The trade-off is that operating it day to day still means logging in. Pulling delivery stats, checking which template a stream uses, investigating a bounce spike, sending a one-off — every one of those is a sign-in.
Carly is a full-service AI agent with 60+ integrations. Postmark is one of them. Once connected, you can operate Postmark by emailing carly@usecarly.com or chatting at dashboard.carlyassistant.com. Stats, investigations, and one-off sends all happen by message.
Connect Postmark
Postmark uses a server API token. In your Postmark account, open the server you want to connect, go to API Tokens, and create a new server token. Then go to dashboard.carlyassistant.com/integrations, find Postmark under Email, click Connect, and paste it.
You can connect multiple Postmark servers if you operate separate environments — production, staging, an internal-tools server. Tell the agent which one to act on. See the full Postmark integration page for use cases and FAQs.
What Your Agent Can Do With Postmark
Send a Transactional Email Manually
Email your agent:
To: carly@usecarly.com Subject: Resend receipt
The customer at jordan@mariposa.co never got their receipt for order #4821. Send the “order_receipt” Postmark template to that address with order_id #4821, total $189.50, items 3, ship date 2026-05-07.
The agent fires the email through Postmark with the variables filled in. Useful when something failed in your queue and you need to hand-send.
Pull Delivery Stats
Chat message to your agent:
Give me delivered, opened, bounced, and complained counts for the “outbound” message stream over the last 7 days. Compare to the prior 7 days.
The agent queries Postmark’s stats API and emails back a clean comparison. Useful for weekly delivery reviews.
Investigate a Specific Message
To: carly@usecarly.com Subject: Did this email land?
Did jordan@mariposa.co receive any emails from the “transactional” stream in the last 24 hours? If so, give me the message IDs, statuses, opens, and link clicks.
The agent pulls the message history and reports back. Useful for support investigations into “I never got the email.”
Monitor Bounces
Chat message to your agent:
Pull every hard bounce from the last 24 hours grouped by domain. Flag any domains with 3+ bounces.
The agent finds the bounces, groups them, and flags potential domain-level issues — like a recipient mail server outage or a misconfigured filter.
The Agent Learns How You Work
After a couple of weeks, the agent picks up your servers, your common templates, and the intervals you usually want stats for. You stop spelling out “for the last 7 days from the outbound stream” — the agent assumes it.
This applies across everything — not just Postmark. The agent learns your operational habits and applies them across the tools it touches.
Build a Dedicated Deliverability Agent
Your main agent handles everything for you. But you can also create specialized email agents for deliverability monitoring.
You are a deliverability monitoring assistant. Every weekday morning at 9 AM:
1. Pull yesterday's bounce, complaint, and reject rates from each Postmark server
2. Compare to the 7-day rolling average
3. If any rate is more than 1.5x the average, flag it as an alert
4. Email me a daily digest with the rates, comparisons, and any alerts
Don't send a digest on weekends. If there's an alert, also post in #email-eng.
Give this agent its own email address like deliverability@yourdomain.usecarly.com. Engineers can forward customer complaints to it for investigation. The morning digest lands in everyone’s inbox automatically.
Workflows That Replace Manual Email Operations
Customer Investigation
A customer support rep emails the agent: “Did we send a magic link to alex@email.com last hour?” The agent queries Postmark, finds the message, reports the status (delivered, bounced, soft-bounced), and includes the bounce reason if any. Support gets a clean answer in seconds.
Daily Delivery Digest
To: carly@usecarly.com Subject: Daily delivery digest
Every weekday at 9 AM, send me yesterday’s delivery numbers from all my Postmark servers. Group by stream, highlight anything below 95% delivered.
The agent runs the report on schedule and emails the digest. No dashboard, no clicks.
Manual Re-Send for Critical Messages
Chat message to your agent:
Re-send last night’s password reset from the “auth” Postmark template to lena@northbeam.io. Generate a new token via the auth API first.
The agent chains your auth API and Postmark together to get a working reset back to the customer in one step.
Postmark + Other Integrations
The agent chains Postmark with the rest of your stack:
- Postmark + Linear/Jira — Bounce spikes auto-file an issue in your engineering tracker
- Postmark + Slack — Daily delivery digest posts in #engineering
- Postmark + Sentry — Cross-reference delivery failures with backend errors
- Postmark + HubSpot — Customer-specific delivery questions get the CRM context attached
- Postmark + Google Sheets — Long-term stats archived for trend analysis
FAQ
Do I need a specific Postmark plan?
Postmark API access is available on all plans. Carly works with the standard API, so any active Postmark account can connect.
Can the agent send via the broadcast (newsletter) stream?
Yes, but check your Postmark setup first. Broadcast streams have their own deliverability rules. The agent will send through whichever stream you specify.
Will Carly affect my Postmark sender reputation?
No. The agent uses the same standard API any client uses. Sender reputation is determined by the recipients’ engagement and Postmark’s deliverability rules — Carly just operates the API.
Can the agent investigate a single bounce reason?
Yes. Forward the bounce notification to the agent or send the recipient address. The agent pulls the bounce reason from Postmark and explains what it means in plain English.
Will this work with multiple Postmark servers?
Yes. Connect each server you want the agent to manage. When sending or querying, tell the agent which server to use — production, staging, or an internal-tools server.
What’s the difference between the main agent and a specialized email agent?
Carly is your personal AI assistant — it handles Postmark, email, scheduling, and 60+ other tools. Specialized email agents are AI employees you create for specific operational jobs — like a deliverability monitor with its own email address that posts daily digests.
