How to Write a LinkedIn Recommendation (2026)
A good LinkedIn recommendation is short, specific, and proves one thing well. Here’s where to find the option and a structure that beats vague praise like “great to work with.”
1. Start a Recommendation
- Go to the profile of the person you want to recommend.
- Click the More (⋯) button under their headline.
- Select Recommend [name].
- Choose your relationship (e.g., managed them, worked alongside them) and their position at the time.
- Click Next to write.
You can also scroll to the Recommendations section and click Recommend.
2. Use a Simple 4-Part Structure
- How you know them — one line of context.
- Their standout strength — pick one, not five.
- A specific result — a number, project, or outcome.
- A confident close — who you’d recommend them to.
3. Example
I managed Priya for two years on our growth team. Her standout strength is turning messy data into decisions — she rebuilt our reporting and cut weekly analysis time from a day to an hour. Any team that needs an analyst who ships would be lucky to have her.
Specific, short, and memorable — that’s the bar.
4. Respond to a Recommendation Request
If someone asks you for one, you’ll get a notification and message. Click through to the same Recommend flow. You can also ask for a recommendation from your own profile’s Recommendations section.
5. Troubleshooting
I don’t see the Recommend option
You may need to be connected first. Send a connection request, then the option appears under More.
The recommendation isn’t showing on their profile
The recipient must accept and display it. Until they approve, it’s pending and hidden.
I want to edit one I sent
Go to your profile > Recommendations > Given, find it, and click Edit or Delete.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
