Does Instinct Work on WhatsApp? What to Know (2026)

Yes. Instinct, the personal AI agent, takes requests over WhatsApp as well as iMessage, ordinary text messages and phone calls. There’s no Instinct app to install for day-to-day use: you message it like a contact and it carries out the task in the apps you’ve connected. The catch is access. Instinct is still in private beta, and you need an invite or a spot off the waitlist.

How Instinct works on WhatsApp

Instinct’s own site keeps it short: “You can text or call it.” The WhatsApp chat is where you give the instruction; the work happens elsewhere. Colombian tech outlet ENTER.CO put it plainly: a request sent on WhatsApp can end in a booking, a purchase or a call to a business, while the agent works through other services to get there.

Behind the chat, Instinct “can use a phone and computer in the same way that humans do,” and it works with the accounts you connect, such as email, calendar and Google Workspace. You sign in at app.instinct.com. In September it started giving each user’s assistant a dedicated email address, so it can sign up for services and contact businesses without filling your personal inbox, and it has begun rolling out support for placing calls, according to TechCrunch.

What people use it for, per Instinct’s homepage: disputing a bill, sending birthday gifts, ordering groceries, scheduling doctor’s appointments and planning a weekend away.

Does Instinct work on iMessage too?

Yes. iMessage, WhatsApp, regular SMS and voice calls all reach the same assistant. Pick whichever you already live in. Sign-in is by a one-time code texted to your phone number.

How to get Instinct

Instinct is invite-only while it’s in private beta. You can join the waitlist or get an invite from someone who already has access (we cover that in Instinct invite codes). It’s free during the beta and hasn’t published a price; see Instinct pricing for what’s known.

Before you hand it your accounts

Instinct is built to finish the job, which is the point and also the risk. It acts inside the accounts you connect, so:

  • Start with low-stakes accounts. Errands and bookings before your work email or bank.
  • Check what it did. Its terms make you responsible for reviewing its actions, and say its records of those actions “may not always be accurate.”

Our Instinct review covers the launch-week reports in more detail.

Instinct or Carly?

They aim at different parts of your life. Instinct is built for life admin: bookings, bills, shopping and errands. Carly is built for the work that arrives in your inbox and calendar: replying to clients from the right address, finding times across all your calendars, following up, and updating your CRM, triggered the moment an email or meeting request lands. Some people use both. The side-by-side is in Carly vs Instinct.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
