A customer support inbox with an AI agent resolving conversations alongside human replies

Intercom Pricing: Seats, Fin Outcomes, and Add-Ons

Intercom costs $29, $85, or $132 per seat per month billed annually, or $39, $99, and $139 billed monthly. The three plans are Essential, Advanced, and Expert. New customers are currently offered 35% off Essential, which takes it to $19 a seat.

The seat price is the smaller half of the bill for most teams. Fin, Intercom’s AI agent, is charged at $0.99 per outcome on every plan, and three of the platform’s more useful pieces are add-ons rather than tier features.

PlanAnnual (per seat/mo)MonthlyFree Lite seats
Essential$29$39None published
Advanced$85$9920
Expert$132$13950

Annual billing saves about 26% on Essential, 14% on Advanced, and 5% on Expert, so the commitment is worth far more at the bottom of the range than at the top.

Essential

$29 a seat per month billed annually. Fin for service, sales and ecommerce, the Messenger, a shared inbox and ticketing system, pre-built reports, and a public help center.

Essential is a complete small support desk. What it lacks is the routing and automation layer, which is what most teams discover they were buying.

Advanced

$85 a seat per month billed annually. Everything in Essential plus multiple team inboxes, the Workflows automation builder, round robin assignment, a private and multilingual help center, and 20 free Lite seats.

Lite seats deserve attention. They let colleagues outside the support team read and comment internally without a full license, and 20 of them is a genuine saving for a company where engineering and sales occasionally get looped in. Only Full seats can send messages or use outbound features.

Expert

$132 a seat per month billed annually. Everything in Advanced plus SSO and identity management, HIPAA support, service level agreements, multibrand Messenger and help center, and 50 free Lite seats.

Fin, which is priced separately from everything above

Fin is included in the sense that every plan can use it, and charged in the sense that every use costs money. The rate is $0.99 per outcome, and Intercom counts an outcome when the customer confirms the issue is resolved, when they do not ask for more help after Fin responds, or when Fin completes a workflow, including a handoff. You are charged once per conversation regardless of how many questions Fin answers inside it.

Fin can also be run on top of a helpdesk you already have, such as Salesforce, at the same $0.99 per outcome with no seat costs and no platform fee. That version carries a minimum monthly commitment, quoted as an example of 50 outcomes.

The add-ons

Add-onCostWhat it includes
Copilot$29 per agent/month annually, $35 monthlyUnlimited AI assistance in the inbox
ProFrom $99/monthOperator, plus analysis of 1,000 conversations and 2,000 credits monthly
Proactive Support Plus$99/month500 messages, tours, surveys, checklists, series

Every agent already gets 10 Copilot and 10 AI auto-translation conversations a month free, so the add-on is a cap removal rather than a new capability. Pro credits beyond the included allowance are $0.01 each, and complex work such as analyzing large conversation sets consumes more of them.

What the pricing page glosses over

Seats are the floor and usage is the variable. Beyond seats, Intercom charges per Fin outcome, per WhatsApp conversation, per SMS, per bulk email sent, and for phone usage. Inbound support, such as replying to a customer email, is included.

The 35% Essential discount is a new-customer offer. It applies to one plan and it is promotional, so the renewal price to plan around is $29 a seat annually, not $19.

Fin’s outcome definition is broad. A customer who simply stops replying counts as an outcome, as does a handoff to a human. Neither feels like a resolution to the person paying, and both bill at $0.99.

Copilot is per agent, not per user of it. At $35 a month monthly billed across a ten-person team that is $350 on top of seats, whether or not everyone uses it past the free ten conversations.

Is Intercom free?

No. Intercom has no free plan. Every published tier starts with a free trial, and the add-ons are included in that trial and can be removed afterwards.

When Intercom isn’t worth it

Intercom is a serious customer service platform. If several people work the same queue across chat, email and phone, and you want an AI agent deflecting volume with reporting behind it, the per-seat plus per-outcome model is buying something real.

It becomes an awkward purchase further down. A founder or a two-person team often lands on Intercom because support email was piling up, then finds themselves at $85 a seat to get the Workflows builder, $35 an agent for Copilot, and 99 cents each time the AI ends a conversation. The underlying problem was that messages arrive faster than anyone can answer them.

If that is the shape of it, Carly is priced differently. Every Gmail and Outlook account connects as its own authorized connection, so one assistant reads across all of them and replies from the address that owns the thread. The triage and routing layer is a workflow, and Carly’s Zapier-style workflow steps are free rather than charged per run or per outcome. The assistant that drafts, sends, and books on top starts at $35 a month rather than per seat.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
