ChatGPT + Aircall Integration: How to Set It Up in 2026

ChatGPT can work with Aircall, but not through an official plugin. As of October 2026 there’s no Aircall plugin in ChatGPT, and Aircall says it doesn’t offer an MCP server yet. You connect through Aircall’s API: an admin creates a key, a bridge or your own server turns it into tools, and you add that in ChatGPT’s Developer mode. Then ChatGPT can look up calls, pull transcripts and tag calls when you ask. No Aircall event can start it, and it can’t hold a live call. For AI calls and texts from ChatGPT with no server, add Carly Teams.

What Aircall offers AI assistants today

Aircall’s MCP work points the other way: its own AI Voice Agents can use a partner’s MCP server during a call. Aircall’s MCP FAQ, updated in September, says it doesn’t offer an MCP server of its own yet. So the path for ChatGPT is Aircall’s public API.

What ChatGPT can do with Aircall

With a bridge or server built on Aircall’s API, ask ChatGPT to:

  • Find calls by date, number, teammate, direction or tag, with recording and voicemail links.
  • Read what was said: a call’s transcript, summary and action items. These need Aircall’s AI Assist.
  • Tidy the call log: tag a call, add a note, archive a missed call, or transfer a live one.
  • Work the contact list: search, create and update shared contacts.
  • Send a text into the agent conversation, so a teammate can pick up the reply in Aircall.

How to connect ChatGPT to Aircall

  1. Start as an admin. Only Aircall admins can open Integrations, where keys live.
  2. Create an API key. In the Aircall Dashboard, go to Integrations → API keys and click Generate an API key. Name it, then copy the API ID and API token. Aircall shows the token once (Aircall’s API key guide).
  3. Pick a bridge or a server. Zapier MCP and Pipedream MCP offer a few Aircall tools at a hosted URL. Community servers on GitHub wrap more of the API, but most run on your own computer, where ChatGPT can’t reach them. Run OpenAI’s Secure MCP Tunnel client beside it, or host it at a public HTTPS address.
  4. Solve sign-in for your own server. ChatGPT can’t present a custom API key, so a hosted server needs OAuth in front. Never pick No Auth for a public URL that holds your Aircall key. Anyone who found it could read your call recordings and text your customers.
  5. Check for Developer mode. On the Plugins page, click Add. If Create MCP App isn’t there, turn on Developer mode under Settings → Security and login.
  6. Add the server. Choose Create MCP App, paste the URL or pick your tunnel, and set the authentication.
  7. Test with a read. Ask for yesterday’s missed Aircall calls before you let it change anything. More on steps 3 to 6: connect an MCP server to ChatGPT.

Can ChatGPT make calls through Aircall?

It can start one, but it never speaks on it. Aircall’s API has two ways to start a call:

  • Dial for a teammate. The call starts in a teammate’s Aircall desktop app, and the teammate talks.
  • Fire an Aircall AI Voice Agent you’ve already set up in Aircall. Aircall’s agent runs the conversation, the outcome comes back as webhook events ChatGPT can’t receive, and nobody steers the call from the chat.

The limits that matter

  • No Aircall trigger. OpenAI’s event-triggered tasks support Gmail, Slack and GitHub events. Aircall can post a webhook when a call ends, but ChatGPT has nowhere to receive it. Scheduled tasks can poll, though custom plugins in unattended runs are fragile.
  • Plan gates. Aircall lists APIs and webhooks on every plan. Sending texts through the API yourself needs the Professional plan (Aircall’s Messaging API docs), and transcripts and summaries need AI Assist.
  • Aircall’s own AI stays in Aircall. Its AI Voice Agents answer and place calls there, and AI Assist writes call summaries. Aircall’s core plans include 50 AI Voice Agent minutes a month, with more billed per minute.

Aircall work that runs on its own: Carly

Carly runs workflows in the cloud on a schedule, or when an email, form or calendar event comes in, with no chat open. You describe each one in plain English.

Connecting Aircall takes one step: create an Aircall API key and paste the API ID and token at carlyassistant.com/integrations. No server to host, no OAuth layer to build. Then ask for things like:

  • “Every morning at 8, list yesterday’s missed Aircall calls and draft a follow-up from my Outlook to each caller we have an email for.”
  • “Every hour, find new Aircall calls tagged ‘quote’, create a HubSpot deal for each caller, and email them our pricing sheet from Gmail.”
  • “When a customer emails to say they missed our call, find it in Aircall and reply with three times Josh is free this week.”

Carly connects to thousands of apps, so the same workflow can update your CRM or put the callback on Google Calendar. Pricing: Free Zapier-style workflows; AI agents from $35/month. To set these up from a ChatGPT chat, add the Carly plugin: Get the Carly plugin

AI calls and texts from ChatGPT: Carly Teams

Carly Teams gives ChatGPT a business line it can work. It runs on your team’s line in Carly, not inside your Aircall numbers. If your team already has a Twilio account, connect it on the Phone page in Carly. If not, the Carly team sets up a number with you on a short call. From the chat, ChatGPT can:

  • Place calls with a live AI voice agent that does a task, like confirming a delivery, and reports back with a summary and transcript.
  • Watch a call live, send new instructions mid-call, or hang up.
  • Send and answer texts, and review missed calls and voicemail.
  • Build your agents: a voice agent that answers the line 24/7 or after hours, qualifies callers, books meetings on the team calendar, or transfers the call live to a person, in English or Spanish to match the caller. Or a text agent that texts back missed calls.

Every call is logged with a summary and transcript, and the CRM updates based on how it went. Before any text or call, ChatGPT confirms the team, the recipient and the message or task with you.

Setup is one prompt. Paste it into a new ChatGPT chat and it walks you through each step, then checks that it can see your phone lines.

Carly business setup prompt

Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or any AI agent. It connects your team's calls, texts, voicemail and voice agents, one step at a time.

Help me connect Carly Teams so I can work with my organization's business texts, phone calls, voicemail and voice/text agents from this chat.

I'll add Carly Teams to you myself. It isn't in any plugin or connector directory yet, so it gets added as a custom connection by URL: https://carlyassistant.com/team/mcp. Tell me exactly what to click for the app you are, one step at a time, and wait for me to confirm before moving on. If you can run the setup yourself (Claude Code, Codex, Muse, Grok Bot), go ahead.

1. Tell me how to add Carly Teams. Give me only the steps for the app you are:
   - ChatGPT: I open https://chatgpt.com/plugins, click Add, and choose Create MCP App (not Create plugin or Upload plugin archive). If Create MCP App isn't on the menu, I turn on Developer mode first in Settings > Security and login. I name it "Carly Teams" with the description "Work with my team's business texts, calls, voicemail and voice/text agents," paste https://carlyassistant.com/team/mcp as the server URL, choose OAuth, create it, and sign in. Then in the message box I open the + menu, choose Developer mode, and pick Carly Teams. Don't have me build, package or upload a plugin.
   - Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop, or Cowork): I go to Customize > Connectors > Add custom connector, name it Carly Teams, paste https://carlyassistant.com/team/mcp, and sign in.
   - Claude Code: run claude mcp add --transport http --scope user carly-teams https://carlyassistant.com/team/mcp then I run /mcp, pick carly-teams, and authenticate.
   - Codex: run codex mcp add carly-teams --url https://carlyassistant.com/team/mcp then codex mcp login carly-teams
   - Cursor: I add {"mcpServers": {"carly-teams": {"url": "https://carlyassistant.com/team/mcp"}}} to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, then sign in to carly-teams from Customize.
   - Muse: I create a Carly API key at carlyassistant.com/integrations (Advanced > API Keys > Create a new key, with organization read and write scopes for the actions I need). You build a custom connector to https://carlyassistant.com/team/mcp using the key as a bearer token and ask me for it in your secure credential prompt.
   - Grok: I go to grok.com/connectors, choose New Connector, then Custom, paste https://carlyassistant.com/team/mcp, and sign in.
   - Grok Bot: add a custom remote MCP server named carly-teams with https://carlyassistant.com/team/mcp, then I approve it and sign in.
   - Perplexity: I go to Settings > Connectors > Custom connector > Remote, paste https://carlyassistant.com/team/mcp, and sign in.
   - Anything else: I add a remote MCP server (streamable HTTP) named carly-teams with https://carlyassistant.com/team/mcp. It signs in with OAuth.
I sign in with the Carly account that belongs to my organization. If a step doesn't match what I see, ask me what's on my screen before giving the next one.

2. When I say it's added, check that you can see the Carly Teams tools, including list_phone_lines. If you can't yet, tell me how to turn Carly Teams on for this chat, or tell me to open a new chat and paste this prompt again.

3. Check it worked: call list_phone_lines to show the teams and phone lines I can access. Don't tell me it's connected until that call succeeds. If I have several teams, ask which to use. If the team needs a phone line, help me connect its existing Twilio account on the Phone page in Carly.

4. Ask what I want to do first, for example: "Review our missed calls and voicemail and help me reply to customers." I can also read and answer business texts, have the team's agent make a call, or edit the voice and text agents. Before sending texts or making calls, confirm the team, recipient and message or task with me. Respect my team permissions.

For my email, calendars, files, booking pages and workflows, add the regular Carly plugin as a separate connection. It's listed in ChatGPT's plugin directory (https://chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_6a67a26316b88191860222f918d4ec54) and Claude's connector directory (https://claude.ai/directory/carly), and anywhere else it connects at https://carlyassistant.com/mcp/.

Then try:

  • “Have the agent call Claire about her renewal. Watch the call, and if she asks about pricing, tell it to offer a call with Josh.”
  • “Set up our voice agent to answer after 6pm, book callers on Emily’s calendar, and transfer anything urgent to her.”

FAQ

Does ChatGPT work with Aircall?

Yes, through Aircall’s API, not an official plugin. An admin creates a key, and you add a bridge or your own server with Create MCP App in Developer mode.

Is there an official Aircall MCP server?

Not as of October 2026. Community servers on GitHub wrap Aircall’s API, but Aircall doesn’t back any of them, and most run only on your own computer.

Can ChatGPT send texts through Aircall?

Yes, if your server exposes Aircall’s Messaging API and your account is on the Professional plan or above. US numbers must be registered with carriers before texts go through.

Can ChatGPT log an Aircall call to my CRM when it ends?

Not on its own. ChatGPT’s event triggers cover Gmail, Slack and GitHub, so a finished Aircall call can’t start it. Carly can check Aircall on a schedule you set, update the CRM and send the follow-up from your own inbox.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
