Where Claude and OneNote fall short today
- Claude can’t open OneNote. Anthropic’s own help page says OneNote “isn’t currently a supported file type.” Notebooks show up in search, then fail with a “mime type ‘application/msonenote’ is not allowed” error.
- The official workaround is exporting. Anthropic suggests exporting pages to Word or PDF first. That’s a copy, and it’s out of date the moment you add a note.
- The DIY route is an app registration. Community OneNote servers go through Microsoft Graph and need your own Microsoft Entra app registration.
- Personal OneNote is out anyway. Claude’s Microsoft 365 connector needs a work account, so notebooks on a personal Microsoft account can’t be reached.
- Nothing happens on its own. A meeting ends, a call wraps, a client sends details: the note doesn’t get written unless you write it.
