Claude + Tipalti: What the Integration Can (and Can't) Do in 2026
Short answer: there’s no ready-made way to connect Claude to Tipalti. Anthropic doesn’t offer a Tipalti connector, Tipalti hasn’t built one, and there’s no polished free one to install. The good news, relative to other AP tools: Tipalti actually ships a modern API with a developer hub and a test environment, so the raw plumbing exists and a developer could wire up a connection. The catch is that it’s a payments platform — live access is turned on for account holders — and even once it’s built, no invoice or failed payment can start the work — Claude acts on your prompt or on a timer.
Here’s the plain-English version: what’s possible today, what it takes, where it stops, and what to use if you want Tipalti work to actually happen without you.
The plumbing is real — the live access is account-based
Tipalti is further along than most AP tools on developer experience. The Developer Hub offers sample code and a dedicated test environment for building and trying things before going live, the API is well-structured, and there’s a documented Procurement API alongside the payout / mass-payments API.
The honest caveat: this is money movement across 196 countries. Live API access is turned on for Tipalti account holders, and the payout side in particular is switched on through onboarding, not a paste-your-key-and-send-money affair. You can build and test freely against the practice environment; touching live payee and payment data means the credentials Tipalti provisions for your account.
None of this is built into Claude. There’s no Tipalti connector in Anthropic’s directory — the API is the surface a developer would build a connection against.
What Tipalti’s API covers — and what it doesn’t
The API covers payee onboarding, invoice and AP management, payment processing, procurement, and financial reporting (an older-format API is still around for legacy integrations). That’s a real surface for building automation.
Tipalti’s own AI story is inside its product — invoice capture and AP automation, supplier onboarding, tax and compliance checks. Those are Tipalti features; they don’t connect to your Claude account.
What a Claude + Tipalti connection would take
There’s no first-party path, so someone technical has to build and run a small piece of software that sits between Claude and Tipalti — in Claude’s world this is called an MCP connector. Two realistic routes:
- A connector against Tipalti’s own API — build and test in the practice environment, then point the connector at the live API using the credentials Tipalti provisions for your account. This is the cleanest route for a single Tipalti account.
- Through a middleware bridge — there’s a Zapier connection via APIANT with a “New Payee” trigger and a webhook action; someone can wrap that into the same kind of connector to reach Tipalti indirectly. It’s limited — payee-and-webhook shaped, not full AP coverage.
Either way, a paid Claude plan is required for remote connectors on claude.ai; local ones run through Claude Desktop or Claude Code.
The limit that matters: Claude never reacts to an invoice
Scheduled work is no longer the dividing line — ChatGPT and Claude both run tasks on a timer without anyone watching. The line that still holds is event triggers. Nothing kicks off because something happened in one of your apps; it kicks off because the clock said so, which means anything time-sensitive waits for the next run.
Three consequences:
- It never notices anything. A new invoice arrives, a payment fails, a payee finishes onboarding — nothing catches that and acts. No “when a payment fails, email the vendor and flag AP.” Either you ask, or a timer asks for you.
- Nothing is watching. Claude pulls a payables list or a payment status when you ask; it doesn’t sit on your account watching invoices and following up. A timed task can look later; nothing looks the moment it matters.
- “Scheduled” isn’t really automatic. The closest Claude gets to running on its own is a scheduled task — but it fires on a preset timer, not on events, and Claude has no inbox to receive work. With payments, an agent that only acts when you remember to prompt it is a real problem.
What about email — can’t Claude just chase the vendor? Out of the box, no: Claude’s built-in email (both Gmail and Outlook) only drafts, it doesn’t send — you still hit send yourself. You could pay a developer to build sending in too, but it’s one more thing to maintain and it still only runs when you or a schedule start it, never on the event itself. So Claude is good for “summarize what’s due this week and to whom” and not built for “chase every failed payment and notify the vendor automatically.”
If you want Tipalti AP work to happen on its own: Carly
The moment you want something to happen around Tipalti without you in the chat — email a vendor the instant a payment fails, nudge an incomplete payee onboarding, send a weekly payables digest — you’ve walked past what Claude is for.
Carly connects to Tipalti with your own account credentials — build and test in the practice environment, then paste them on carlyassistant.com/integrations, no connector to maintain — and then Carly runs the actual work, 24/7 in the cloud:
- When a payment fails → Carly emails the vendor, drafts the AP flag, and logs what happened.
- When a new invoice lands → Carly reads it, routes it for approval, and chases the approver until it clears.
- When a vendor onboarding stalls → Carly nudges the payee to finish their details.
- Every Monday → what’s due this week rolls up into one payables digest in your inbox.
Carly drafts and sends email across Gmail and Outlook, updates tasks and records, and connects to 200+ tools natively (see integrations) or any app via your own API key — describe the workflow in plain English and Carly builds it with you. AI agents start at $35/month, and any step in a workflow that doesn’t use AI runs free and unlimited.

| What it takes to set up | Build & run your own connector + provisioned credentials | Paste your credentials |
| Pricing | Pro $20 / Max $100–$200, plus the build | AI agents from $35/mo |
Claude with a custom build is a payables view inside a chat. Carly is a teammate that acts on invoices and payment events as they happen.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Claude work with Tipalti?
Not out of the box. There’s no Claude Tipalti connector and Tipalti hasn’t built one. But Tipalti ships a real API and test environment, so a developer can build a custom connection or use middleware — with the caveat that live access is turned on for account holders, and like everything Claude, nothing fires on an event.
Can I connect Tipalti to Claude through Zapier?
Partly. There’s a Zapier connection via APIANT with a “New Payee” trigger and a webhook action, which someone can wrap into a connector to reach Tipalti indirectly. It’s limited to payee/webhook flows, not full AP coverage.
Is Tipalti’s invoice AI a Claude integration?
No. Tipalti’s invoice capture and AP automation are built-in product features. They don’t connect to your Claude account.
What if I want Tipalti to act on its own — chase failed payments, send payables digests?
That’s beyond what Claude does; it answers on demand or on a timer, and doesn’t act on events. Carly fires on Tipalti events and schedules 24/7 in the cloud and can email vendors, flag AP, update records, and send payables digests. AI agents start at $35/month.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
