How to Pin a Message in Teams (2026)

Pinning a message in Microsoft Teams keeps an important message at the top of a chat or channel so everyone can find it — a meeting link, a deadline, a key decision. Pinned messages are visible to everyone in the conversation. Here’s how to pin and unpin.

Pin a Message

  1. In the chat or channel, hover over the message you want to pin.
  2. Click More options (the that appears on the message).
  3. Select Pin (in some chats it reads Pin for everyone).

The message moves to a pinned area at the top of the conversation, showing who posted it and when. Click a pinned message any time to jump to it in the conversation.

See Pinned Messages

  • Chat: pinned messages appear at the top of the chat. Click the pin/info area to expand the full list.
  • Channel: open the channel’s info pane (or the pinned section at the top) to see everything pinned there.

A chat or channel can hold up to 50 pinned messages.

Unpin or Replace a Message

  1. Hover over the pinned message.
  2. Click More options (the ).
  3. Choose Unpin.

The message stays in the conversation history — only the pin is removed. Anyone in the conversation (except guests) can unpin or pin a different message.

Troubleshooting

I don’t see a “Pin” option

Make sure you’re hovering over the message itself so the More options (…) appears. On mobile, press and hold the message to bring up the menu. Some older or system messages can’t be pinned.

Pinning isn’t available in my chat

Guests can view pinned messages but can’t pin or unpin. If you’re a guest in that chat, ask a regular member to pin it.

My pin disappeared

Anyone in the conversation can unpin a message, so a teammate may have removed it. The message is still in the chat history — search for it and pin it again.

Pin a message vs. save a message

Pinning is shared with everyone in that conversation. Saving (the bookmark) is private to you and lives in your saved items. Use save for personal reminders, pin for shared reference.

How many messages can I pin?

Up to 50 per chat or channel. Beyond that, unpin something first.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
