How to Stop Pinterest Emails: All at Once or Just Pin Picks

Most Pinterest email isn’t about anything you did. It’s more Pinterest: Pins picked for you, boards for you, popular Pins, searches you might like.

The good news is that Pinterest, unlike most senders, has a single switch that turns its email off. You can also keep the two or three types worth having and drop the rest.

The quick answer: On desktop, click the More options icon at the bottom left, then Settings → Notifications, open How you get notifications and switch Email off, then click Save. In the app, tap your profile picture, open settings from the top of your profile, tap Notifications, switch off Email and tap Turn off all. Only want the recommendation mail gone? Turn off the Pin picks and Boards, searches and topics emails and leave Messages on. The Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any Pinterest email stops that one type, and a Gmail filter or Outlook rule for pinterest.com catches whatever’s left. If Pinterest is one of a dozen apps mailing you “ideas,” Carly unsubscribes you and files the backlog across all your inboxes in one ask.

Every Pinterest email, and the switch for it

Pinterest groups its email notifications into five categories under Settings → Notifications → Email. Here’s what lands in your inbox and where each one is turned off.

Turn off every Pinterest email with one switch

This is the fastest route if you don’t want any Pinterest mail at all.

On desktop:

  1. Log in and click the More options icon at the bottom left of the screen.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click Notifications in the left-side menu. Once you’re signed in, pinterest.com/settings/notifications goes straight there.
  4. Open the drop-down next to How you get notifications.
  5. Switch off the toggle next to Email.
  6. Click Save.

In the Pinterest app (iPhone or Android):

  1. Tap your profile picture at the bottom right.
  2. Open settings from the top of your profile. Depending on your app version, that’s your profile photo at the top left or the three-dot icon at the top right. Business accounts use the three-dot (ellipsis) icon.
  3. Tap Notifications.
  4. Under How you get notifications, open the drop-down and switch off Email.
  5. Tap Turn off all.

Pinterest says the change may take a day or two, so an email or two can still trickle in after you flip it.

Keep messages, lose the Pin picks

All or nothing isn’t the only choice. If friends message you on Pinterest or you collaborate on a group board, you may want those emails and nothing else.

  1. Go to Notifications in your settings, as above.
  2. Open the Email category instead of the master switch.
  3. Turn off everything under Pin picks and Boards, searches and topics. These are the recommendation emails, and for most people they’re the bulk of it.
  4. Turn off People who share your interests and Followers too, unless you track your audience.
  5. Leave Messages on, plus Group board updates if you use group boards.
  6. On desktop, click Save. The app saves as you go.

Watch the button you click on desktop. Reset, next to Save, puts every notification back to Pinterest’s defaults, which undoes all of the above.

Pinterest emails carry an Unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click it, then Confirm, and that type of email stops. The page that opens also lists the email types you currently get, and deselecting all of them unsubscribes you from everything. It’s the quickest fix when one specific email bugs you, like a “Boards for you” roundup you never open.

Quiet group board invites and updates

Group boards create two kinds of email. When someone invites you to collaborate, Pinterest sends you an email or notification about it. Once you’ve joined, activity on the board can arrive as Group board updates.

  • Stay on the board, drop the emails: switch off Group board updates in your Email notifications.
  • Leave the board: on desktop, open your profile, click the group board, click the group of profile pictures below the board name, click Leave next to your name, then Leave again to confirm. In the app, tap your profile picture → Boards, open the board, tap the profile pictures below its name, then tap Leave (iPhone) or the cancel icon (Android) and confirm.
  • Own the board? Open it, click the plus circle icon, then the arrow next to Collaborators can… to stop collaborators inviting other people and to turn off board requests.

Pinterest business account emails

A business account uses the same Notifications page and the same Email switch. What changes is the way in. On desktop, Pinterest’s help center routes business accounts through the arrow-down icon at the top right, then Settings. In the app, tap your profile photo at the bottom right, then the three-dot (ellipsis) icon at the top right.

If you run ads or sell through Pinterest, don’t delete Pinterest mail wholesale. Pinterest sends account email from addresses like account.pinterest.com, and you’ll want anything about your account or billing to stay findable. Switch off the recommendation emails in settings, then file the rest into a folder with the filter or rule below rather than deleting it.

Getting Pinterest emails for an account you never created

Someone signed up with your address, or you made an account years ago and forgot it. You can fix this from the email itself:

  1. Open an email from Pinterest and click Unsubscribe at the bottom.
  2. When Pinterest opens, click Didn’t sign up for Pinterest? Let us know.
  3. Click Remove my email address.

Pinterest warns you might still get an email or two while its system updates.

File what’s left with a Gmail filter

Pinterest sends from more than one address on its domain. Its help center gives info.pinterest.com and account.pinterest.com as examples, so filter the whole domain rather than one sender. Filters are created on a computer, not in the Gmail app.

  1. Click Show search options (the sliders icon) in the Gmail search bar.
  2. In From, type pinterest.com.
  3. Click Create filter.
  4. Tick Skip the Inbox (Archive it) and Apply the label, then create a label called “Pinterest.”
  5. Tick Also apply filter to matching conversations to file the Pinterest mail already in your inbox.
  6. Click Create filter.

Use a label, not Delete it, since this catches account emails as well as recommendations. More filter recipes are in how to create filters in Gmail. Sitting on years of old Pin picks? How to mass delete emails in Gmail clears them in a few clicks.

Or an Outlook rule

In new Outlook, Outlook on the web or Outlook.com:

  1. Open Settings (the gear) → Mail → Rules.
  2. Select Add new rule and call it “Pinterest.”
  3. Under Add a condition, choose Sender address includes and enter pinterest.com. That matches the subdomain addresses too.
  4. Under Add an action, choose Move to and pick a folder.
  5. Keep Stop processing more rules on and select Save.
  6. In new Outlook, select Run rule now to move the Pinterest mail you already have.

Microsoft notes that new Outlook doesn’t run rules on Gmail, Yahoo or iCloud accounts added to it, so set those up with the provider. See how to create rules in Outlook, and how to clean up your inbox in Outlook for the backlog.

Deactivate or delete your Pinterest account

You don’t need either to stop the email, since the Email switch does that and keeps your boards. If you’re done with Pinterest anyway:

Deactivate (a pause). On desktop, go to Settings → Account management → Deactivate account and follow the prompts. In the app, it’s under Account management at the bottom. Your profile and boards are hidden until you reactivate. Pinterest warns that logging in reactivates the account, so don’t sign in just to check.

Delete (permanent). Go to Settings → Account management → Delete account (in the app, Delete your data and account), follow the prompts, then confirm from the email Pinterest sends to your account address. Your public profile is deactivated right away, and the account and its data are permanently deleted after 7 days. Until then you can still reactivate (Pinterest asks California users to contact it first). On a business account with unpaid ad charges, Pinterest requires you to remove your payment information to clear them before you can delete.

Clear Pinterest and every app like it in one ask

Pinterest isn’t the only app emailing you “ideas.” Every store and social app you’ve signed up for does it too, each with its own settings page. Carly, an AI assistant that works your email and calendar, clears them by request.

  • Unsubscribes for you. Name the senders you’re done with and Carly uses each one’s own one-click unsubscribe link.
  • Clears the backlog in one pass. It labels, moves or trashes every matching email at once, in Gmail and Outlook.
  • Works across ALL your inboxes. Connect all your accounts, then just ask. Text Carly, email it or use the web app.
  • Keeps new mail sorted. A free Zapier-style workflow files mail from the senders you choose into a Gmail label or Outlook folder the moment it arrives. No AI needed.

Marcus pins recipes on his personal Gmail and runs a Pinterest business account for his ceramics shop on Etsy from his work Outlook. He texts Carly: “Unsubscribe me from Pinterest’s Pin picks and board suggestions in both inboxes, trash the old ones, and move anything from account.pinterest.com into a Pinterest folder.” Carly does it in both accounts, then sets up a workflow so new Pinterest account mail files itself. LinkedIn takes more care, since recruiter messages share a domain with the noise: see how to stop LinkedIn emails.

FAQ

Why am I still getting Pinterest emails after unsubscribing? Pinterest says settings can take a day or two to update. A footer Unsubscribe link only stops that one email type, so a different type keeps arriving. Check that you changed the settings on the account tied to that address (it’s listed under Settings → Account management). If the emails are for an account you never created, use Remove my email address instead.

Can I stop Pinterest recommendation emails but keep messages? Yes. In Notifications, open the Email category, switch off Pin picks and Boards, searches and topics, and leave Messages on. Click Save, not Reset.

Will marking Pinterest emails as spam stop them? Yes. Pinterest’s help center says it stops emailing you once you mark one of its emails as spam. It also teaches your email provider that Pinterest is spam, so an account email you need could land there too. The Email switch gets the same result without that side effect.

Does turning off Pinterest emails stop push notifications too? No. Email, push and in-app are separate categories on the same Notifications page, so switch off each one you don’t want.

How can I tell if an email is really from Pinterest? Pinterest says it always sends from addresses on the pinterest.com domain, such as info.pinterest.com and account.pinterest.com. A “Pinterest” email from any other domain didn’t come from Pinterest.

Can I stop Pinterest emails without opening my settings? Yes. Use the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any Pinterest email, or set up a Gmail filter or Outlook rule for pinterest.com, which needs nothing from Pinterest at all.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
