How to Stop Amazon Emails Without Losing Shipping Updates
Amazon sends two kinds of email. The deals, recommendations and “you might also like” mail you never asked for. And the order, shipping and delivery notices you actually want, just not on top of everything else in your inbox.
The first kind has an off switch. The second doesn’t, so you file it.
The quick answer: Go to Amazon’s Communications Preference Center (amazon.com/gp/cpc/homepage), expand Email under General Settings, switch marketing email off with Do not send me any marketing email for now, and select Save changes. Then clear out program emails in Your Email Subscriptions and opt out of unsolicited third-party seller messages. Order confirmations and shipping emails can’t be switched off, so let a Gmail filter or an Outlook rule matching amazon.com move them into a “Deliveries” folder. If Amazon is one of a dozen senders crowding several inboxes, Carly files the shipping notices and unsubscribes you from the promos across all of them in one ask.

Turn off Amazon marketing emails
Amazon’s help center points to one page for this: the Communications Preference Center. It covers marketing email and the marketing Amazon sends by post.
- Sign in and go to the Communications Preference Center (
amazon.com/gp/cpc/homepage). - Under General Settings, expand Email.
- Use Do not send me any marketing email for now to switch marketing email off.
- Select Save changes.
- Expand Mail and uncheck Get occasional marketing about products, services, deals, and recommendations in the mail.
- Select Save changes again.
Don’t expect silence the next morning. Amazon says new email preferences can take 1 to 5 business days to take effect.
Unsubscribe from Prime, Subscribe & Save and program emails
The marketing switch doesn’t touch emails tied to programs you’ve joined. Amazon keeps those on a separate page, Your Email Subscriptions (amazon.com/preferences/cpc/homepage/subscribed-updates). Open it and remove anything you no longer read.
Two programs have their own settings, per Amazon’s help page on subscription emails:
- Prime membership emails: manage them from your Prime membership page (
amazon.com/gp/primecentral). - Subscribe & Save emails: manage them from your Subscribe & Save items (
amazon.com/gp/subscribe-and-save/manager/viewsubscriptions).
Stop review requests and messages from third-party sellers
Items sold by other merchants come with their own mail. Sellers reach you through Amazon’s Buyer-Seller Messaging service, which is where most “how was your order? please leave a review” follow-ups come from.
Amazon lets you opt out of unsolicited messages from third-party sellers. Update your promotional email settings under Email Preferences to do it. Your full message history with sellers stays in Message Center, on the Buyer/Seller Messages tab.
Why order and shipping emails keep coming
Amazon’s help center lists no setting that turns off order confirmations, shipping notices or delivery emails. The preference pages above cover marketing, subscriptions and seller messages only. Amazon’s Conditions of Use also say that using Amazon means you consent to receive communications electronically, emails included.
Those emails are worth keeping anyway. They’re your receipts and tracking numbers, and the thing you’ll search for when a return window or warranty claim comes up. The fix is to keep them out of the inbox, not off the account.
File Amazon shipping emails with a Gmail filter
With marketing switched off, most of what still arrives from Amazon is order mail. One filter files all of it. Build it on a computer, since the Gmail app can’t create filters.
- Click Show search options (the sliders icon in the Gmail search bar).
- In From, enter
amazon.com. - Click Create filter.
- Tick Skip the Inbox (Archive it) and Apply the label, then create a label called “Deliveries.”
- Tick Also apply filter to matching conversations to file the Amazon email already in your inbox.
- Click Create filter.
Choose a label, not Delete it. This filter catches every Amazon sender, so refunds and account notices land in the label too. If you also get Audible email, Audible says its messages come from an @audible.com or @amazon.com address, so make the From line amazon.com OR audible.com. For more filter options, see how to create filters in Gmail, and for clearing other senders, how to unsubscribe from emails in Gmail.
Or route them with an Outlook rule
In new Outlook, Outlook on the web or Outlook.com:
- Open Settings (the gear) and go to Mail → Rules.
- Select Add new rule and call it “Amazon deliveries.”
- Under Add a condition, pick Sender address includes and enter
amazon.com. - Under Add an action, pick Move to and choose a “Deliveries” folder.
- Keep Stop processing more rules on, then Save.
- In new Outlook, use Run rule now to move the Amazon email you already have.
If you’ve added a Gmail, Yahoo or iCloud address to new Outlook, Microsoft says rules don’t run on it there. Create the filter in that provider instead. The full walkthrough is in how to create rules in Outlook, and newsletter cleanup is in how to unsubscribe from emails in Outlook.
Push notifications, texts, Alexa and Audible
Plenty of Amazon “noise” isn’t email at all. Each channel has its own switch.
- Amazon app: tap the person icon, then the gear icon, then Notifications. Delivery alerts live under Account and shipping → Shipping and delivery. A good split: keep delivery pushes on your phone and let the emails file themselves.
- Shipment texts: in Your Account, open Shipment updates via text in the Communication and content section to cancel them. Amazon only sends these for packages shipped by Amazon.com sellers.
- Alexa deal alerts: in the Alexa app, go to More → Settings → Notifications → Amazon Shopping and turn Deal Recommendations off.
- Audible email: Audible has its own settings. In the Audible app, go to Profile → Settings gear → Email notifications, then deselect what you don’t want.
Closing your Amazon account stops everything, permanently
Closing your account is the only way to end every Amazon email, and it’s drastic. Per Amazon, a closed account can’t be restored. You lose your order history and invoices, and the closure applies on every Amazon site that uses the same login, including amazon.fr and amazon.com.mx.
To do it, go to Close Your Amazon Account, sign in, review the products and services tied to the account, tick Yes, I want to permanently close my Amazon account and delete my data, and select Close my Account. Amazon then sends a confirmation by email or text, and you have five days to reply and verify. Download any invoices you might need for warranties first.
Sort Amazon email across every inbox at once
Amazon’s settings fix one sender in one account. Amazon mail often lands in a personal Gmail, a work Outlook and an old address you still check, alongside forty other retailers doing the same thing. One request to Carly, an AI assistant that works your email and calendar, handles all of it.
- Files what you want to keep. Carly moves shipping and delivery notices into a Deliveries label or folder and receipts into another, in Gmail and Outlook.
- Unsubscribes from what you don’t. It uses each promo sender’s one-click unsubscribe link and trashes the backlog in a single pass.
- Covers ALL your inboxes. Connect all your accounts, then just ask. Email Carly, text it, or use the web app.
- Keeps it that way. A free Zapier-style workflow files new email from
amazon.cominto the folder you picked the moment it lands. No AI involved.
Michael orders for his family on his personal Gmail and buys office supplies through Amazon on his work Outlook. He texts Carly: “Put every Amazon shipping and delivery email in a Deliveries folder, receipts in Receipts, and unsubscribe me from the deal emails from Amazon, Target and Wayfair.” Carly does it in both inboxes, then sets up a workflow so new Amazon mail files itself. Quora digests are a similar cleanup: see how to stop Quora emails.

FAQ
Can I turn off Amazon order confirmation and shipping emails? No. Amazon’s preference pages cover marketing, subscriptions and seller messages, and its help center offers no setting for order or delivery emails. Route them to a folder with a Gmail filter or Outlook rule instead, or let Carly file them.
I unsubscribed, so why is Amazon still emailing me? Three common reasons. Amazon says preference changes can take 1 to 5 business days. Program emails (Prime, Subscribe & Save, items in Your Email Subscriptions) are managed separately from the marketing switch. And order, shipping and delivery emails keep coming no matter what.
How do I stop Amazon sellers emailing me for reviews? Opt out of unsolicited messages from third-party sellers in your promotional email settings under Email Preferences. Seller messages come through Amazon’s Buyer-Seller Messaging service, and that setting blocks the ones you didn’t ask for.
How can I tell if an email is really from Amazon? Amazon says its genuine emails come from an amazon.com address, and every email it sends also appears in your Message Center. If a message isn’t there, Amazon didn’t send it, and you can report it through Amazon’s Report a Scam page in the help center.
Will my Amazon filter catch Audible emails?
Not always. Audible says its emails come from an @audible.com or @amazon.com address, so add audible.com to the filter or rule. Audible’s own email settings are in the Audible app under Profile → Settings → Email notifications.

See what people say
"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
