ChatGPT + Workiz: How to Connect Them in 2026
ChatGPT can work with Workiz, but not through an official plugin: as of September 2026 there is no Workiz plugin in ChatGPT and Workiz hasn’t shipped its own MCP server. You connect it by putting an MCP server built on Workiz’s API behind a public URL and adding it as a custom plugin in ChatGPT’s Developer mode. Once it’s in, ChatGPT can look up jobs, leads, and clients and update them when you ask. What it can’t do is react when a job is marked Done in Workiz, because no Workiz event can start ChatGPT.
What ChatGPT can do with Workiz
With a server built on Workiz’s v2 API, you can ask ChatGPT to:
- Find anything fast. Search matches a name, phone, email, or address across jobs, leads, clients, and invoices.
- Review the schedule. List jobs by date and status, with assigned techs and notes.
- Work the lead list. Create leads, assign a tech, convert a lead to a job, or mark it lost.
- Check money owed. Read invoices and estimates with amount due, and record a payment.
- Find an open slot. A beta availability endpoint returns booking slots with capacity left.
How to connect ChatGPT to Workiz
- Check your plan. Workiz’s pricing comparison lists Open API on Ultimate only, not on Standard or Pro. Then turn on the Developer API add-on: Feature center → Developer API → Get started.
- Create an API key. Go to profile icon → Settings → Integrations → Developer, open the v2 tab, and choose Create New API Key. Name it, set an expiration, and pick permissions per resource (Read, or Read & Write). Copy it before you leave the page; Workiz won’t show it again. Workiz’s credentials guide has screenshots.
- Get a server with a public URL. ChatGPT only talks to remote MCP servers over HTTP, and there is no hosted Workiz server to point at. The one public option on GitHub, workiz-mcp-server, was published by a heating and air company for its own use. It wraps the older v1 API (jobs, leads, team, time off), with no invoice or estimate tools, and you deploy it yourself on a host like Render.
- Solve sign-in. That server protects itself with a fixed bearer key. ChatGPT’s Create MCP App form offers OAuth, No Auth, or Mixed, with no field for a static key, so you need an OAuth layer in front of it. No Auth would leave your customer list open to anyone with the URL.
- Turn on Developer mode. In ChatGPT, go to Settings → Security and login and switch it on. OpenAI offers it on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education accounts on the web.
- Add the plugin. Open Plugins, click Add, choose Create MCP App, and paste the server URL.
- Test with a read. Ask “list today’s open Workiz jobs” before you let it change anything.
Zapier’s Workiz MCP offers a few actions, such as creating a job or lead, but Workiz lists its Zapier integration on Ultimate too.
What changed in Workiz’s API in 2026
Older tutorials and community servers target v1. Workiz’s help center documented v2 in September 2026:
- Named keys with scoped permissions. v1 gives your account one token and secret. v2 keys each get their own expiration and per-resource access, so every AI tool can have its own revocable key.
- Much wider coverage. v1 exposes jobs, leads, team, and time off. v2 adds clients, invoices, estimates, payments, tags, custom fields, timesheets, search, and availability.
- Invoices and estimates are read-only apart from adding a payment. Creating or sending an invoice stays in Workiz.
- Webhooks live in Automations. Add an automation, pick a job, lead, estimate, or invoice trigger, and choose post webhook to send the record to any URL. Each rule counts toward your plan’s automation limit (5 on Standard, 10 on Pro, 30 on Ultimate).
The limits that matter
- The plan gate comes first. On Standard or Pro there is no API to connect, whatever AI tool you use.
- No Workiz trigger in ChatGPT. ChatGPT’s scheduled tasks run a prompt on a clock, and tasks created in ChatGPT Work can use plugins. OpenAI documents event-triggered tasks only for Gmail, Slack and GitHub events. Workiz can fire a webhook when a job closes, but ChatGPT has nowhere to receive it.
- Custom plugins in unattended runs are fragile. See why a connector is unavailable in a scheduled task.
- You maintain the server. The community code isn’t backed by Workiz, has no stars, and holds a key to your whole customer list. Read it before you deploy it.
- Workiz’s own AI stays inside Workiz. Genius Copilot, in beta, answers questions like “which customers have the highest unpaid balances?” in the Workiz app, not in ChatGPT. More in Workiz AI.
Workiz work that runs on its own: Carly
Once the goal is “handle it without me in the chat,” you need an assistant with standing workflows.
Carly is an AI executive assistant that works over email and text. It runs workflows in the cloud on a schedule or when an email, calendar event, or form comes in, with no chat open, and you set them up by describing what you want in plain English.
Connecting Workiz to Carly takes one step: create a v2 API key in Workiz’s Developer settings, open carlyassistant.com/integrations, and paste it in. There’s no server to host and no OAuth layer to build.
Then ask for things like:
- “When a customer emails asking to move their appointment, check Workiz for open slots that week, reply with two options, and update the job once they pick one.”
- “Every weekday at 6am, email Josh and Claire their jobs for the day with addresses and notes.”
- “Every evening, find jobs marked Done today and email each customer a thank-you with our review link.”
- “Every Monday, list invoices with a balance due older than 14 days and draft a reminder for each.”
- “When a lead comes in from the website contact email, create it in Workiz and reply to the customer to confirm we got it.”
Carly connects to thousands of apps, so the same workflow can send from Gmail or Outlook, put the job on Google Calendar, or log a row in Google Sheets. Pricing: Free Zapier-style workflows; AI agents from $35/month.
If you still like asking questions in ChatGPT, add the Carly plugin and set up those workflows from inside a chat.

Frequently asked questions
Does ChatGPT have an official Workiz integration? No. As of September 2026 there is no Workiz plugin in ChatGPT and no official Workiz MCP server. You add a community or self-built server as a custom plugin in Developer mode, or use the Carly plugin with your Workiz API key.
Which Workiz plan includes API access? Workiz’s pricing comparison lists Open API on the Ultimate plan. You also turn on the Developer API add-on from the Feature center before you can create keys. Workiz doesn’t publish plan prices; every plan is “Request pricing.”
How do I get a Workiz API key? Go to profile icon → Settings → Integrations → Developer, open the v2 tab, and choose Create New API Key. Set a name, an expiration, and per-resource permissions, then copy the key before leaving the page.
Can ChatGPT text a customer when a Workiz job is marked Done? Not from Workiz directly. ChatGPT’s event triggers support Gmail, Slack, and GitHub events. Carly can check Workiz for newly completed jobs on a schedule you set and send each customer a message from your own inbox.

See what people say
"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
