Claude + BambooHR: The Official Connector (2026)
Claude works with BambooHR through an official connector. BambooHR built it, it sits in Claude’s connector directory, and it runs on BambooHR’s own hosted MCP server, so there is nothing to build or host. It is in beta. Once a BambooHR admin switches it on, Claude can look up employees, check who’s out, run saved reports, review candidates, and, after asking you first, submit time off or update a record. What it doesn’t have is a trigger. A new hire, a time-off request, a departure: none of them start anything. You ask, or a schedule asks for you.

How Claude connects to BambooHR
BambooHR’s connector is listed in Claude’s directory as made by BambooHR and Anthropic verified. Under the hood it talks to BambooHR’s MCP server, which each company gets at its own address (https://{your-subdomain}.bamboohr.com/api/mcp) and which BambooHR hosts.
A few things follow from that:
- Nothing to self-host. Sign-in happens on BambooHR’s own login page, and tokens refresh on their own.
- It runs as you. Every request carries your BambooHR permissions. HR admins see the most; managers and employees see less. BambooHR warns that a short answer usually means permissions rather than missing data, and it doesn’t always say so.
- Your admin controls it. Nobody can connect until an admin enables it, and switching it off revokes every connection at the company at once.
Once connected, Claude can answer questions about headcount, reporting lines, time off balances, goals and hiring pipelines in plain language, and combine that with other connectors in the same chat.
How to set it up
- A BambooHR admin turns it on. In BambooHR, go to Settings → Apps, find AI Connectors, and enable it. Under Give access to, choose admins only (the default), specific access levels, or all employees.
- Add BambooHR in Claude. Open Customize → Connectors, find BambooHR, and connect. When asked for the server URL, enter
https://{your-subdomain}.bamboohr.com/api/mcpwith your own subdomain. - Sign in and approve. Claude sends you to BambooHR’s sign-in page. Review what’s requested and click Allow Access.
- Trim the tools. Click Configure on the connector and switch off anything you don’t want Claude to use, such as the tools that change data.
- Ask. Start a new chat and ask about your HR data.
The limits that actually matter
Even fully set up, the integration’s shape is “an analyst you query,” not “an agent that runs your HR ops.” Three limits define it:
- No triggers. There’s no “when a new hire is added, kick off onboarding” or “when someone requests time off, route it for approval.” Nothing fires on a BambooHR event.
- The clock is the trigger. Claude Cowork’s scheduled tasks will run a daily HR sweep for you, unattended and remotely. What they can’t do is start the moment the record changes, so a hire entered Friday afternoon begins onboarding whenever the next run lands.
- Beta, and bound by permissions. Results are filtered to what the person who connected can read, and write actions still go through BambooHR’s own approval workflows.
ChatGPT added event triggers for Gmail, Slack and GitHub, and the plumbing underneath is turning out to be the hard part. An open thread on OpenAI's own developer forum documents Gmail and Drive showing as authorized in Settings while conversations report them unavailable at runtime, logged on 28 August and 1 September 2026 with no public fix.
