Claude + Rentec Direct: Connect It with the Open API
Rentec Direct opened its API to every Pro and PM account, but it hasn’t built anything for Claude. You don’t need it to. Create an Open API key, connect it to Carly, add the Carly connector to Claude, and your renters, leases and work orders come into the chat.
Where Rentec Direct stands with Claude
As of October 13, 2026, Claude has no Rentec Direct connector and Rentec Direct publishes no MCP server. What it does publish is the Open API: a REST API, version 3, available on every Pro and PM plan. Keys carry their own permissions, so each connection only sees what you allow, and Rentec Direct says it adds endpoints when an integration needs one.
By default, managers and users with full permissions can create keys. If you don’t see API Keys or Utilities in your account, your administrator can grant you access.
How to connect Rentec Direct to Claude through Carly
- Create an Open API key. In Rentec Direct, click Settings, then under Tools select Utilities. Click API Keys, then +Add API Key, choose Rentec API V3, name the key and click Generate.
- Connect Rentec Direct in Carly. In Carly, go to Integrations → Connect an API and connect Rentec Direct there.
- Add Carly to Claude. Click Get the Carly connector, then Connect, and sign in.
- Ask Claude. It reads your Rentec Direct data through the Carly connector.
What Claude can do with Rentec Direct once Carly is in
- “Who hasn’t paid October rent yet, and how much is each renter short?”
- “Show me every work order with priority 4 or higher that’s still open.”
- “Which leases end in the next 90 days? Draft a renewal email for each renter.”
- “Emily Parker says her dishwasher has leaked twice. Find her unit and every work order on it this year.”
If your Gmail or Outlook is connected in Carly too, Claude can find the renter’s email and the record behind it in one go.
What happens when nobody is asking
Claude only works when you ask. Its scheduled tasks run on a clock, and nothing in Rentec Direct can start one. An urgent work order, a missed payment, a lease 90 days out: each waits until someone thinks to check.

- Every hour, look for new work orders marked priority 4 or higher, post them to your maintenance channel in Slack, and email the vendor the unit details.
- On the 3rd, find everyone with an unpaid balance and email each one a reminder from your mailbox.
- Every Monday, list leases ending in the next 90 days and draft the renewal offers for your review.
- When you email a renter, find their record and log a copy of the message against it.

Does Claude work with Rentec Direct?
