Gemini 4 in Gmail and Google Calendar: What It Can Do

Gemini 4 is not in Gmail or Google Calendar yet. As of October 6, 2026, the one Gemini 4 model Google has released is Gemini 4 Argon, and it is going to vetted cyber defenders first, with no date for the Gemini app or Workspace.

Today’s Gemini in Gmail and Calendar summarizes, drafts, searches and books on your own Google account. If you need email and calendar work handled across every account right now, that is Carly’s job.

Where Gemini 4 stands on October 6, 2026

  • September 30: Google announced Gemini 4 Argon, its first Gemini 4 model, rolling out “to a set of trusted cyber defenders through our Fairwind Program.” Those defenders and Google’s internal teams get a version without cyber guardrails.
  • What comes next: Google’s Argon announcement says the release to “developers, enterprises, and consumers” starts “with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers,” as soon as possible. No date.
  • Gmail and Calendar: no announcement. Neither the Gemini app release notes (latest entry September 30) nor the Workspace Updates blog has a Gemini 4 entry as of today.

Our October 1 roundup has the benchmarks, and the Gemini model timeline shows where Argon fits.

What Gemini does in Gmail today

Google’s Gmail help center lists these features by plan, without naming the model behind each one.

  • Free on personal accounts (US; thread summaries worldwide): Help me write for drafts and rewrites, AI Overview summaries on long threads, and Suggested Replies.
  • On paid plans (Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra; some also on eligible Workspace plans): AI Overview in Gmail search, which answers a question above your results, plus Proofread, Gmail Live for voice questions on mobile, and AI Inbox, which surfaces top priorities (English, US).
  • The Ask Gemini side panel: summarize, draft, search, build a Doc, Sheet or Slide, and archive, delete, label or star mail after you confirm (up to 10,000 threads). Google notes US AI Pro and Ultra subscribers may no longer see it, since those features moved inline.

The send stays with you: Help me write and Suggested Replies put text in your compose window. Full breakdown: Gemini in Gmail and can Gemini send emails.

What Gemini does in Google Calendar today

Three surfaces, three rule sets:

  • Inside Calendar: on eligible Workspace plans, Suggested times checks guests’ availability when you create or reschedule an event. Google lists exceptions: the mobile apps, events over 8 hours, and meetings with too many attendees.
  • From Gmail: the side panel creates, reschedules or deletes events and finds open slots, and Google notes those events go on your primary calendar. Help me schedule drops proposed times into an email (four by default, up to 20 guests).
  • In the Gemini app: create, find, reschedule, rename and cancel events, including on secondary and shared calendars. Google’s calendar help page lists two jobs it leaves to you: adding or inviting people, and changing the location or description of an existing event.

Gemini Spark, Google’s agent, goes further. It can RSVP, change locations, cancel events, and reply to or forward email. Its Gmail monitors start a task when a message matching a Gmail filter arrives. Google’s Spark scheduling docs list the requirements: 18 or over, a personal Google account (work and school accounts are excluded “for now”), Google AI Pro or Ultra, Keep Activity on, and a location outside the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Nigeria. More in what is Gemini Spark.

What Gemini 4 will and won’t change

Google’s documented Argon gains are model-level: frontier performance in coding, “enterprise knowledge work like legal and finance,” and cyber defense; an output limit raised to 1 million tokens from 64,000; and an introductory API price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output.

Gmail and Calendar features are a separate decision. Google announces them on the Workspace Updates blog and lists them per plan in the help center, and it gates models by plan too: from October 9, free Gemini app users drop to Flash-Lite while AI Pro gains Deep Think. If Gemini 4 comes to Gmail, that announcement will say which features and plans get it.

None of the limits below are model properties. They live on Google’s help pages and stay as documented until Google changes them.

Where Google’s docs stop for email and calendar work

Gemini works on the Google account you’re signed in with.

The built-in connectors hold one account per provider. Claude and Gemini each authorize a single Google account, and connecting a second one replaces the first rather than adding to it. Switching inboxes means disconnecting and reauthorizing, which is why personal and work is still two sessions rather than one. Carly holds all of them at once.

  • Outlook. The Gemini app’s Workspace connection covers Google services. Google documents an Outlook connector in Gemini Enterprise, a separate product an admin provisions. See can Gemini access Outlook.
  • You confirm the send. Spark is “designed to ask for your review and confirmation” before actions such as “sending communications.”
  • Timing. Google says monitors “are still not ideal for tracking fast-moving data or performing time-critical tasks.”
  • Sign-ins. In Spark’s remote browser, a task stops at a sign-in page until you take over.

Carly runs it across all your accounts

If you want something to do it across all your accounts and actually run it, get Carly. It’s an AI executive assistant that works across every Gmail and Outlook account at once, personal and work, and sees all your Google and Outlook calendars together.

Here is Emily’s week. She runs a three-person design studio from a Workspace address, keeps a personal Gmail, and has an Outlook login a client set up for her. Her ask, in one message: “Check all my inboxes for anything about the Halvorsen rebrand, and book a review with Tom and the client next week.”

Carly searches all three inboxes, finds a slot that’s free on every calendar, books it, sends the invite to everyone with the agenda in the description, and replies on the client’s thread with the brief attached.

Then she makes it permanent with a workflow: when a client email asking to meet lands in any inbox, Carly proposes times, books the slot and sends the invite. It starts on its own within minutes of the email arriving, whether or not Emily has a tab open.

What else she uses:

  • Booking pages and group polls. A booking page that checks every calendar, and availability polls for group meetings.
  • An agent with its own email address. Clients CC her intake AI employee, and it handles the back-and-forth, sending on its own or drafting for her approval.
  • Texting. From her US number she texts Carly “move my 3pm to Thursday” between meetings.
  • The rest of her tools. Carly connects to thousands of apps, including HubSpot, Slack and Asana. Browse the integrations, or start with Gmail, Google Calendar and Outlook.

Carly doesn’t use your data, including Google and Microsoft data, to train AI models. Free Zapier-style workflows; AI agents from $35/month. Get started.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Gemini 4 coming to Gmail?

Google hasn’t given a date. As of October 6, 2026, Gemini 4 Argon is rolling out to cyber defenders in Google’s Fairwind Program, and Google says the wider release starts with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers. Gmail and Calendar features are announced separately, on Google’s Workspace Updates blog.

Can I use Gemini 4 right now?

Not unless you’re in the Fairwind Program. Argon isn’t in the Gemini app or Gmail yet, and Google has given no date for paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers, who come first.

Which Gemini model runs Gmail and Google Calendar today?

Google’s Gmail and Calendar help pages list features by plan and don’t name the model behind each one. In the Gemini app, model access depends on plan: from October 9, free users get Flash-Lite, AI Plus gets Flash-Lite and Flash, and AI Pro and Ultra keep Pro.

Can Gemini send emails for me?

In Gmail, Help me write and Suggested Replies give you text and you click send. Gemini Spark can reply to and forward email, and Google documents that it asks for your confirmation before sending communications. To send across Gmail and Outlook, with attachments, from a workflow that runs on its own, use Carly.

Does Gemini work with Outlook or several Gmail accounts?

Gemini connects to the Google account you’re signed in with, and Google documents Outlook support in Gemini Enterprise, a separate admin-provisioned product. Carly works across all your Gmail and Outlook accounts and calendars at once. Try Carly.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
