How to Change Your Name on Zoom (2026)
Your Zoom name can be changed two ways: just for the current meeting, or permanently in your profile so it sticks for every call. Here’s how to do both, on every device.
Rename Yourself During a Meeting
This changes your name only for the meeting you’re in.
- Click Participants on the meeting toolbar.
- Hover over your own name (marked (Me)) in the list.
- Click More > Rename.
- Type the new name and click OK / Change.
Shortcut: you can also right-click your video tile > Rename.
Change Your Name on Mobile (During a Meeting)
- Tap the screen to show controls, then tap Participants.
- Tap your own name at the top of the list.
- Tap Rename.
- Enter the new name and tap Done.
Change Your Name Permanently (Profile)
To set the name for all future meetings:
On the web:
- Go to zoom.us and sign in.
- Click Profile.
- Click Edit next to your name (top-right of the name card).
- Update First Name, Last Name, and Display Name.
- Click Save.
In the desktop app:
- Click your profile picture (top-right) > My Profile (opens the web portal), or
- Click your picture > Settings > Profile > Edit My Profile.
The new display name applies the next time you join a meeting.
Add Pronouns to Your Name
- Go to zoom.us > Profile and click Edit next to your name.
- Fill in the Pronouns field and choose how to share them (always, ask each time, or don’t share).
- Save. Pronouns appear after your name, like “Sarah (she/her).”
Troubleshooting
”Rename” is missing / greyed out
The host disabled renaming. Ask them to allow it: host clicks Participants > More (…) at the bottom > untick Lock the ability to rename for non-hosts (or Allow participants to rename themselves).
My old name keeps coming back
You renamed only for that meeting. To make it permanent, change it in your Profile at zoom.us, then fully quit and reopen the Zoom app.
The name still shows wrong after editing my profile
Sign out of the desktop app and back in, or restart Zoom — the app caches your old display name until you re-authenticate.
I’m joining by phone and want a real name
Dial-in callers show as a number. Join from the app instead, or have the host rename your phone entry in the Participants list.
