Two Google Drive accounts connected to a single Claude conversation

How to Connect Multiple Google Drive Accounts to Claude

Claude’s Google Drive connector authorizes one Google account at a time. Connecting a second Drive replaces the first rather than sitting beside it, so a question that spans your personal Drive and your work Drive cannot be answered in a single conversation natively.

There is a working route to both, and it is worth understanding why the native connector stops where it does before you set it up.

What Claude’s Drive connector does with one account

Google Drive sits in Anthropic’s Connectors Directory as part of the Google Workspace connectors, generally available since around February 2026. Connected to a single Google identity, Claude can find files, analyze and summarize them, cross-reference several documents, and use their contents as grounding for an answer. With file creation and code execution switched on it can also save files it generates into a folder you pick.

Two limits shape everything below. It writes new files but cannot change existing ones, so editing, moving, renaming, and reorganizing are all outside the connector. And there are no event triggers, so nothing happens because a file landed.

One connector, one account. That is the shape across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini: the Gmail or Google Workspace connection authorizes a single identity, so a second account overwrites the first instead of sitting beside it. Anyone running a personal address and a work address does the disconnect-and-reconnect dance to move between them.

Why the second Drive is a real problem

The people who hit this hardest are the ones with a legitimate split: a personal @gmail.com Drive holding years of documents, a Workspace Drive at work, and often a client Workspace on top of that.

Claude’s account switcher does not solve it. Separate Claude logins keep their connectors separate, which is the point of the feature. Neither does sharing a folder from one Google account to the other, because a shared folder shows up in the second account’s Drive but the connector still reads through one identity’s permissions, and the sharing has to be maintained by hand as folders change.

1. Give each Google identity a role

Use names you would actually say out loud rather than “Drive 1” and “Drive 2”. All addresses below are fictional:

AccountRole
fictional.dana.reyes@gmail.comPersonal
fictional.dana.reyes@pepsi.comMain Company
fictional.dana.reyes@cisco.comClient

Roles are what you use in ordinary questions. The full address is what you use on anything that writes.

2. Connect the first Drive to Carly

  1. Sign in at carlyassistant.com.
  2. Open carlyassistant.com/integrations.
  3. Find Google Drive and click Connect.
  4. Choose the first Google account.
  5. Review and approve access.
  6. Confirm the connected address.

If a Google Workspace account requires administrator review, ask the Workspace administrator to approve the connection before you finish. Starting that early saves a day.

3. Add the other Drives

  1. Return to the integrations page.
  2. Select Google Drive → Connect again.
  3. Choose Use another account if Google preselects the first login.
  4. Sign in to the next Google identity.
  5. Complete authorization.
  6. Verify the full address before adding another.

Each Drive stays separate. Nothing is merged, copied, or synced between them.

4. Add Carly to Claude

  1. Open Settings → Connectors in the Claude app or on claude.ai.
  2. Add a custom connector.
  3. Paste https://carlyassistant.com/mcp/.
  4. Continue to authorization and sign in to the Carly workspace holding the Drives.

Custom connectors require a paid Claude plan, which is worth knowing before you start. The first-party directory connectors are available more broadly, but a remote connector like Carly’s is a Pro or Max feature.

5. Test each Drive read-only first

One account per prompt, before anything writes:

In the Personal Drive, list the five most recently modified files with their folder. Do not change anything.

In fictional.dana.reyes@pepsi.com, find the most recent version of the renewal contract and tell me which folder it is in. Read only.

Then a cross-account question, which is the whole reason for the setup:

Search Personal and Main Company for documents mentioning “Q3 forecast” from the last 60 days. Show the source account in every row.

Once Claude reliably names the right Drive every time, move on to actions that write.

6. Reuse this routing prompt

Treat fictional.dana.reyes@gmail.com as Personal, fictional.dana.reyes@pepsi.com as Main Company, and fictional.dana.reyes@cisco.com as Client. Always state the target account before saving, filing, or moving anything. Never write to an account I have not named.

Then name the target on each action:

Save the summary as a document in the Client Drive, in the Contracts folder.

File the attachment into Main Company only.

Native Drive connector versus Carly in Claude

Search one Google DriveYesYes
Hold several Google identities at onceNoYes

The last two rows matter more than they look. Claude’s relationship with your Drive lasts as long as the chat window. Carly runs on triggers in the cloud, so an invoice that arrives at two in the morning is filed against the right client in the right Drive before you wake up, and the same workflows keep running when you are not in Claude at all.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude connect two Google Drive accounts natively?

No. The Google Workspace connector authorizes a single Google identity, and connecting another one replaces it. Reaching a second Drive natively means disconnecting and reauthorizing.

Does a shared folder solve this?

Only partially, and it does not scale. Sharing a folder from one Google account to another makes those specific files visible through one identity, but you maintain the sharing by hand and the second Drive’s own structure stays out of reach.

Do the Drives get merged?

No. Each Google identity stays separate and keeps its own folders and permissions. Carly routes each request to the account you name.

Can Claude edit a file that already exists in Drive?

Not through the native connector. It can save new files when file creation and code execution are on, but changing, moving, or renaming an existing file is outside what it does.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
