How to Connect Multiple SharePoint Sites to Claude
Within one Microsoft tenant, Claude can already reach several SharePoint sites. Across two tenants it cannot, because the connection holds one Microsoft identity. That distinction is the whole question, and most guides blur it.
Sites under one company login come along with that login. The wall is the second tenant, and it is absolute: a client’s SharePoint is not reachable from the identity your employer issued you.
How Claude reaches SharePoint at all
There is no standalone SharePoint app in Anthropic’s Connectors Directory. SharePoint comes bundled into the Microsoft 365 connector, Anthropic’s single bridge across the Microsoft suite. Signed in with one Microsoft account, Claude can find and read the sites, libraries, and pages that account has permission to see, summarize and search across them, and pull Outlook, OneDrive, and Teams content in as context alongside.
So “multiple sites” inside one tenant is mostly a permissions question rather than a connector question. If your account can open the site in a browser, the connector can generally read it.
By default the connector is read-only. On July 7, 2026 Anthropic added write tools that cover the whole file lifecycle in OneDrive and SharePoint document libraries: Anthropic’s tool table documents uploading, replacing a file’s content, creating folders, renaming, moving, copying, and deleting to the recycle bin. They are off by default and take a deliberate rollout: a Microsoft Entra admin must consent to the expanded permissions and your Claude organization must switch them on. Editing pages or site structure is not covered even then.
Where it actually stops: the second tenant
One Microsoft identity means one tenant’s worth of SharePoint. The people who hit this are consultants, agencies, fractional executives, and anyone with a guest account somewhere: your own company’s sites in one tenant, the client’s sites in another, and a single question that needs both.
Guest access does not rescue it either. Being a guest in a client tenant gets you into their sites with your own credentials in a browser, but the connector still authorizes one identity and admin consent on the client side is its own conversation.
1. Sort your sites by tenant
| Site | Tenant | Reachable natively? |
|---|---|---|
| Marketing team site | Your company | Yes, with the connector |
| Contracts library | Your company | Yes, with the connector |
| Client delivery site | Client tenant | No, second identity |
Anything in the first tenant works with the native connector today. Everything below the line needs a second connection.
2. Connect the Microsoft 365 connector
- Open Settings → Connectors in the Claude app or on claude.ai.
- Find the Microsoft 365 connector and click Connect.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns your primary tenant.
- Approve the requested permissions. Your tenant admin may need to allow it.
Test it before adding anything else. Ask Claude to find a document you know lives in one of your sites and confirm it comes back with the right source.
3. Connect each tenant to Carly
- Sign in at carlyassistant.com.
- Open carlyassistant.com/integrations.
- Find SharePoint and click Connect.
- Authorize the first Microsoft identity.
- Repeat for every additional tenant, choosing a different account each time.
- Verify which tenant each connection landed in before adding the next.
On a managed tenant an administrator may need to approve access. Start that request early, especially on the client side where you are not the admin.
4. Add Carly to Claude
- Open Settings → Connectors.
- Add a custom connector.
- Paste
https://carlyassistant.com/mcp/. - Authorize and sign in to the Carly workspace holding the tenants.
Custom connectors require a paid Claude plan, which is worth confirming before you begin.
5. Test each site read-only
Name one site per prompt until routing is reliable:
In the Contracts library on our own tenant, list the five most recently modified documents. Do not change anything.
In the client delivery site, find the current statement of work and tell me its last modified date. Read only.
Then the cross-tenant question that was impossible before:
Search our Contracts library and the client delivery site for documents mentioning “change order” from the last 90 days. Show the source site and tenant in every row.
6. Reuse this routing prompt
Treat the Contracts library and Marketing team site as Internal, and the client delivery site as Client. Always state the target site and tenant before filing, updating, or routing anything. Never write to a site I have not named.
Native connector versus Carly in Claude
| Need | Microsoft 365 connector | Carly connector |
|---|---|---|
| Read several sites in one tenant | Yes | Yes |
| Read sites across two tenants | No | Yes |
| Create or update files in a library | Only with admin-enabled write tools | Yes |
| Publish pages or change site structure | No | Yes |
| Act when a document lands | No | Yes |
| Run the same work outside Claude | No | Yes |
That fifth row is where most of the value sits. A signed contract lands in a document library and nothing else happens, because the next step lives in someone’s head. Carly sees the new document, files it against the right client, extracts the renewal date onto a calendar, notifies the account owner with a summary, and emails the counterparty a confirmation from your address.

Quick fixes
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| A site in your own tenant is missing | Confirm your account has permission to open it directly |
| The client tenant will not authorize | Ask their administrator to approve the connection |
| Claude will not add a custom connector | Custom connectors need a paid plan |
| Claude reads the wrong site | Name the site and tenant and require source attribution |
| Writes are refused | Write tools are off by default and need Entra admin consent plus org enablement |
Frequently asked questions
Can Claude read more than one SharePoint site?
Yes, within a single tenant. The Microsoft 365 connector reads the sites, libraries, and pages your connected account has permission to see, so several sites under one company login are already covered.
Can Claude connect to two SharePoint tenants?
Not natively. The connector authorizes one Microsoft identity, so your own tenant and a client’s tenant are two separate connections.
Does guest access let Claude into a client’s SharePoint?
Not through a single connection. Guest access works for you in a browser, but the connector still holds one identity and the client’s admin controls consent on their side.
Can Claude create documents in a SharePoint library?
Only if an administrator has enabled the write tools added in July 2026, which are off by default. Even then they cover creating and updating files, not publishing pages or restructuring sites.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
