How to Turn Off Notifications in Outlook (2026)
Constant pop-ups break focus. Outlook lets you switch off desktop banner alerts, the new-mail sound, and mobile push independently, so you can mute everything or keep just calendar reminders. Steps differ by client.
1. Turn Off Notifications (Classic Outlook for Windows)
- Go to File > Options > Mail.
- Under Message arrival, uncheck:
- Play a sound
- Show an envelope icon in the taskbar
- Display a Desktop Alert
- Click OK.
To silence Windows banners too: Windows Settings > System > Notifications > Outlook > toggle off.
2. Turn Off Notifications (New Outlook for Windows)
- Click the Settings gear (top right).
- Go to General > Notifications.
- Turn off Desktop notifications, Sounds, and In-app notifications as desired.
You can keep Calendar reminders on while turning Mail notifications off here.
3. Turn Off Notifications (Outlook on the Web)
- Click the Settings gear.
- Go to General > Notifications.
- Toggle off Send me desktop notifications and Play a sound.
Browser-level permissions can also block these — check your browser’s site notification settings for outlook.office.com.
4. Turn Off Notifications (Outlook Mobile)
In the app: Tap your profile > Settings (gear) > Notifications. Choose None, or switch from Focused and Other to Focused only.
In the OS:
- iOS: Settings > Notifications > Outlook > turn off Allow Notifications.
- Android: Settings > Apps > Outlook > Notifications > turn off.
5. Troubleshooting
I turned them off but still get banners
A second layer is active. Disable Outlook notifications in Windows/iOS/Android system settings as well as inside Outlook.
I muted mail but still want meeting reminders
Keep Calendar notifications on and turn off only Mail alerts — new Outlook and the web separate the two.
Notifications come back after an update
Some updates reset preferences. Recheck Settings > Notifications after major Outlook updates.
I want quiet hours instead of fully off
On mobile, use Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb to schedule quiet times rather than disabling everything.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.
Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.
On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
