Two Google Drive accounts connected to a single Perplexity assistant

How to Connect Multiple Google Drive Accounts to Perplexity

Perplexity’s Google Drive connector holds one Google account and is read-only by design, so the way to work a personal Drive and a client Drive from one chat is Carly: authorize each Google identity there, add Carly to Perplexity once, and name the Drive you mean. No Perplexity page says a second Google account can be added, and none says it cannot, which is an unusual answer worth being precise about. Carly holds your OneDrive accounts, and every mailbox and calendar on both sides, in the same place.

What one chat can do afterwards

  • Search a personal Gmail Drive and a work Workspace Drive in the same question.
  • Say which account each copy of a document lives in.
  • File, rename or move a document in the Drive you name.
  • Pull the term dates out of a contract the moment it lands, not at the next hourly poll.
  • Reach a Shared Drive that the native connector never documents either way.
  • Turn a new file into an email, a task and a calendar hold in one pass.

Nothing is merged. Each Google identity keeps its own authorization, and every Drive stays individually addressable.

What the connector actually does

Two different things get called “connecting Drive to Perplexity” and only one of them is the connector. Perplexity’s Google Drive help article describes the connector as querying your Drive through Google’s API in real time, accessing only files returned by the API based on your search query. The other thing is uploading a file into a thread or a Project through the vertical ellipsis and Upload, or via Add from cloud, which is a one-off snapshot of one file. Readers who try the upload path and conclude the integration is weak have usually never enabled the connector.

Perplexity states the connector is available for Perplexity Pro, Perplexity Max, Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max. Pro gets the full “standard search entire Drive” row and syncing files to Projects, while High-Precision Search and syncing to My Files are Enterprise only, where organization admins can also disable the connector for everyone.

The scope screen that looks alarming and is not

The Google consent screen asks to “See, edit, create, and delete only the specific Google Drive files you use with this app”. That reads like write access. Perplexity’s documentation kills the inference in the next breath: the “edit, create, and delete” permissions enable the connector to maintain sync metadata, but Perplexity does not modify your Drive file content.

That is a general rule, not just a Perplexity fact. A granted OAuth scope is not an exposed action. There is no documented create, edit, move or delete of Drive files on any Perplexity surface, so anything that has to change a file needs a different route. Access is permission-scoped too: Perplexity adheres to the file permissions set in Drive, and removing access to a file removes it from Perplexity immediately.

The second Google account, and what the evidence shows

Nothing in Perplexity’s help centre states that a second Google account can be added, and nothing states that it cannot. There are two indirect signals, and neither is proof.

The first is the sibling connector. Perplexity’s Gmail and Google Calendar connector article says verbatim that it can only query one primary calendar and that querying multiple or secondary calendars is not possible. The same sentence appears in its Outlook.com article. The second is a community feature request from August 2025 asking for multiple Google accounts under one Perplexity profile, in which a user claimed only one Google integration is permitted at a time; a staff member redirected the thread as off-topic without confirming or denying it.

Both point the same way. The planning assumption is one Google account per Perplexity profile, with a second Drive meaning disconnect and reconnect. The same picture holds on the mail side, covered in multiple Gmail accounts in Perplexity.

Inside the one account, folders work well: Perplexity states you can sync individual files, multiple files, or entire folders, and selecting a folder synchronizes every file in it. Whole Drives do not, in its own words. Shared Drives and the “Shared with me” view are never named in any Perplexity article, as supported or as excluded, so test one before building a habit on it.

The hourly floor, and the page that contradicts it

Perplexity has scheduling, not triggers. Scheduled Tasks live inside Computer, at Computer then Tasks, and any recurring cadence is allowed as long as it runs no more often than once per hour, with sub-hourly cadences listed as not supported.

Perplexity’s “What is Computer?” overview page says something different, claiming Computer can monitor your email, calendar, flight status and files with condition-based triggers. That phrase appears on the overview page only. No mechanism for it appears anywhere in the Tasks documentation, and no Drive folder trigger is described. The Tasks documentation is the one with the mechanism in it.

Make the gap concrete. A client drops a signed statement of work into your shared folder at 9:05. The earliest an hourly task can notice is 10:00. For a nightly digest that is fine. For anything you promised to acknowledge same-hour, it is not.

1. Sort your accounts

Your situationNative path in Perplexity
One Google account, many foldersYes, on Pro or above
One Google account, a whole Drive at onceNo, adding entire Drives is not supported
Personal Gmail Drive plus a work Workspace DriveUndocumented, plan for one at a time
A Shared Drive or “Shared with me”Undocumented, test it yourself
Changing or filing a documentRead-only by vendor statement
Acting the moment a file landsNo, the floor is an hourly poll

2. Connect each Google account to Carly

  1. Sign in at carlyassistant.com.
  2. Open carlyassistant.com/integrations.
  3. Find Google Drive and click Connect.
  4. Authorize the first Google account.
  5. Repeat for every additional account, personal or Workspace.
  6. Confirm each account appears as its own connection.

Authorization happens per account, so a personal Drive and a work Drive sit side by side as two real connections rather than one slot you keep re-authorizing.

3. Add Carly as a custom remote connector

Perplexity shipped Bring Your Own Connector for Pro, Max and Enterprise subscribers in March 2026. That is how Perplexity reaches the Drives you just authorized:

  1. Open Settings → Connectors.
  2. Select + Custom connector.
  3. Choose Remote.
  4. Enter a name and https://carlyassistant.com/mcp/ as the MCP server URL.
  5. Choose the authentication option and acknowledge the third-party connector risk.
  6. Add the connector and finish authorization.

Perplexity’s remote connector guide supports HTTPS servers over Streamable HTTP or SSE. Enterprise administrators can share a connector across the organization and decide whether members may add their own; that member permission is disabled by default.

4. Test each account read-only

One account per prompt until routing is reliable:

In my personal Drive, find the current home insurance renewal PDF and give me the expiry date. Do not change anything.

In my work Drive, list every file added to the Ford campaign folder in the last two weeks. Read only.

Then the question that needed both at once:

Find every version of the Databricks proposal across both my Drives, tell me which is newest, and say which account each copy lives in.

5. Reuse this routing prompt

Treat my Gmail Drive as Personal and my Workspace Drive as Work. Always say which account a file lives in before you summarize, file or rename it. Never touch an account I have not named.

Then name the target per action:

When a signed contract lands in Work under Clients/Cisco, read it, pull the term dates and the notice period, and message me a two-line summary.

Native Perplexity versus Carly

Search one Google Drive accountYes, connector on Pro and aboveYes
Change, file or rename a documentRead-only by vendor statementYes, per your instruction
High-precision search over huge file countsYes, on EnterpriseStandard search

Carly authorizes per account, so a personal Drive and a work Drive are two real connections and a single instruction can reach across them. It fires when the file lands rather than waiting for the next hourly poll, which is the difference between a 9:05 document being handled at 9:05 and at 10:00.

Frequently asked questions

Can Perplexity connect to two Google Drive accounts?

Not through its own connector, which is undocumented in both directions and sits beside a Google connector documented as querying only one primary calendar. Authorize both Drives in Carly and add Carly once as a custom remote connector, and a single chat reaches both.

Is the Perplexity Google Drive connector read-only?

Yes, by Perplexity’s own statement. The consent screen asks for edit, create and delete scopes, but the documentation says those exist to maintain sync metadata and that Perplexity does not modify your Drive file content. Anything that has to change a file runs through Carly.

Does Perplexity do anything when a file lands in Drive?

No. Scheduled Tasks inside Computer run no more often than once per hour and sub-hourly cadences are explicitly unsupported, so the fastest native reaction is the next poll. Carly triggers on the event.

Does the Drive connector work on the free plan?

No. Perplexity lists it for Pro, Max, Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max, with Pro the self-serve entry point. Custom remote connectors need the same paid tiers.

Ready to automate your busywork?

Carly schedules, researches, and briefs you—so you can focus on what matters.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
