A personal and a work OneDrive connected to a single ChatGPT conversation

How to Connect Multiple OneDrive Accounts to ChatGPT

One personal OneDrive and one work OneDrive can both be connected to ChatGPT, because they use different connectors. A second work tenant cannot, because that connector holds one Microsoft identity. This is the rare case where the honest answer is a partial yes, and knowing which half applies to you saves an afternoon.

The two connectors

ChatGPT reaches OneDrive through official Microsoft connectors, and there are two distinct paths:

  • OneDrive for personal Microsoft accounts, covering an @outlook.com or @hotmail.com login and the files in that drive.
  • SharePoint and OneDrive for work and school accounts, covering your Microsoft 365 tenant.

Because these are separate connectors, connecting your personal drive does not evict your work drive. That is the good news, and it is genuinely different from how the Google side behaves.

Connectors are available across Free, Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans, with exact features varying by plan.

What both connectors do, and do not

ChatGPT can find files by describing them rather than navigating a folder tree, read and summarize documents with the source cited, and answer across several files at once.

Access is read-oriented. ChatGPT does not upload, edit, move, rename, or organize anything in your drive, so outputs stay in the chat until you move them yourself. And nothing watches your folders: a Scheduled Task can sweep on a timer, but no file arriving starts anything.

Where it stops: the second work tenant

If you hold two Microsoft 365 accounts, your own company and a client’s, the work connector authorizes one of them. The other is out of reach in that session.

The account switcher does not help. Separate ChatGPT logins keep their connected apps separate by design, which means a second tenant is a second session rather than one assistant that sees both drives.

1. Sort your drives

DriveAccount typeNative path
fictional.priya.raman@outlook.comPersonal MicrosoftOneDrive personal connector
fictional.priya.raman@ford.comWork, main tenantSharePoint and OneDrive connector
fictional.priya.raman@cisco.comWork, client tenantNot natively

Anything on the first two rows works today. The third row is why the rest of this guide exists.

2. Connect the native connectors

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Connectors.
  2. Add OneDrive for your personal Microsoft account and sign in.
  3. Add SharePoint / OneDrive for work and school and sign in with your main tenant. An admin may need to grant consent.
  4. Ask about a file in each to confirm both respond.

That covers a personal drive beside a work one. It does not cover a second work tenant, a client’s drive, or anything that has to write, which is where the rest of this goes.

3. Connect every drive to Carly

  1. Sign in at carlyassistant.com.
  2. Open carlyassistant.com/integrations.
  3. Find OneDrive and click Connect.
  4. Authorize the first Microsoft identity.
  5. Repeat for every additional account, personal and work alike.
  6. Verify the account after each authorization before adding another.

On a managed tenant, request administrator approval early rather than at the end.

4. Add Carly to ChatGPT

  1. Open Plugins in the ChatGPT sidebar.
  2. Click +.
  3. Paste https://carlyassistant.com/mcp/.
  4. Authorize and sign in to the Carly workspace holding the drives.

If + is disabled, a workspace administrator needs to enable plugins.

5. Test each drive read-only

In the personal OneDrive, list the five most recently modified files with their folders. Do not change anything.

In fictional.priya.raman@ford.com, find the latest board deck and tell me when it was last edited. Read only.

Then the cross-account question:

Search the main tenant and the client tenant for files mentioning “statement of work” from the last 90 days. Show the source account in every row.

6. Reuse this routing prompt

Treat fictional.priya.raman@outlook.com as Personal, fictional.priya.raman@ford.com as Main Company, and fictional.priya.raman@cisco.com as Client. Always state the target account before saving, filing, or moving anything. Wait for approval on any write.

Native connectors versus Carly in ChatGPT

Reading is the half that already works. The half that repeats is what happens next: an invoice attachment saved to the right folder and logged, a contract filed and summarized to the deal owner, a Friday digest of what changed. Carly fires on the event rather than on a prompt and runs in the cloud, so a file that arrives overnight is handled before you open your laptop.

Quick fixes

ProblemFix
Only one drive shows upConfirm you added both the personal and the work/school connector, not one twice
Work tenant will not authorizeAsk the Microsoft 365 admin to grant consent
Plugins + is disabledAsk the ChatGPT workspace admin to enable plugins
ChatGPT reads the wrong driveUse the full address and require source attribution
A shared file is missingConfirm it lives in that account’s drive rather than a library owned elsewhere

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT connect to two OneDrive accounts?

Yes, if one is a personal Microsoft account and the other is a work or school account, because those are separate connectors. Two work tenants is a different matter and is not supported natively.

Can ChatGPT connect two Microsoft 365 work accounts?

Not natively. That connector authorizes one Microsoft identity, so the second tenant needs another route.

Can ChatGPT save a file to OneDrive?

No. The connectors read your files. Uploading, moving, and organizing happen outside the chat unless you add a tool with write access.

Does connecting my personal drive disconnect my work drive?

No. They use different connectors and coexist.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
