How to Stop Quora Emails and Turn Off the Quora Digest

Quora emails come in more flavors than most people expect: the digest, notifications about answers and comments, Space updates. Turn one off and another shows up.

You can stop nearly all of it. Here’s the order that works.

The quick answer: On the web, go to Quora’s Settings → Email & Notifications (quora.com/settings/notifications) and switch off every email type you don’t want. In the app, it’s profile icon → Settings → Email & Notifications → Email. For anything left, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of each email, which opts you out of that one type. Then add a Gmail filter or Outlook rule for quora.com to catch the emails Quora won’t let you turn off. Deactivating your account stops everything. And if Quora is one of fifty senders you’d like gone, Carly unsubscribes you and files the backlog across all your inboxes in one ask.

Turn off Quora emails in Email & Notifications

This is the main switchboard. Quora’s help center says the page controls both the types of email you get and how often you get them.

On the web:

  1. Open Quora and go to Settings.
  2. Click Email & Notifications in the left-side menu. You can also go straight to quora.com/settings/notifications.
  3. Switch off every email type you don’t want.
  4. For any type you keep, lower the frequency.

In the Quora app (iPhone or Android):

  1. Tap your profile icon in the upper left.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Choose Email & Notifications.
  4. Choose Email (or Push notifications if it’s the phone buzzing you want to stop), then switch off what you don’t want.

Quora is upfront that not every type of email appears on this page. That’s why the next two steps exist.

Most Quora notification and content emails carry an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Per Quora, each link opts you out of that email type, not all of Quora.

So the move is: open each kind of Quora email still reaching you (the digest, a Space update, an answer notification) and use its footer link once.

Give it a couple of days before you decide it failed. Google tells bulk senders to process unsubscribe requests within 48 hours.

The Quora emails you can’t switch off

Some Quora mail has no off switch, according to Quora’s own help center:

  • Legal notices. Updates to Quora’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are legally required, and no one can opt out of them.
  • Space admin notifications. If you’re an admin of a Quora Space, you’ll get member requests, Space updates and moderation notices. The only way off is to remove yourself as an admin.
  • Types missing from the settings page. Anything not listed in Email & Notifications has to be stopped from its footer link.

If even those bother you, filter them out in your email app.

Catch the rest with a Gmail filter

A filter files every Quora email the moment it lands, no matter which Quora address sent it. Gmail filters are created on a computer, not in the Gmail app.

  1. In Gmail, click Show search options (the sliders icon) in the search bar.
  2. In From, type *@quora.com.
  3. Click Create filter.
  4. Tick Skip the Inbox (Archive it) and Apply the label, then pick or create a label called “Quora.”
  5. Tick Also apply filter to matching conversations to clear out the Quora email already sitting in your inbox.
  6. Click Create filter.

Quora mail now goes straight to the label, searchable but out of sight. The full mechanics are in how to create filters in Gmail, and Gmail’s own unsubscribe tools are covered in how to unsubscribe from emails in Gmail.

Or an Outlook rule

Same idea in new Outlook, Outlook on the web or Outlook.com:

  1. Select Settings (the gear) → Mail → Rules.
  2. Select Add new rule and name it “Quora.”
  3. Under Add a condition, choose Sender address includes and type quora.com.
  4. Under Add an action, choose Move to and pick a folder (or choose Delete if you never want to see it).
  5. Leave Stop processing more rules on and select Save.
  6. In new Outlook, select Run rule now next to the rule to sweep up Quora mail you already have.

One catch from Microsoft: new Outlook doesn’t run rules on Gmail, Yahoo or iCloud accounts you’ve added to it. Set those up in the provider itself. More detail in how to create rules in Outlook and how to unsubscribe from emails in Outlook.

Deactivate or delete your Quora account

If you don’t use Quora anymore, this ends the emails for good.

Deactivate (reversible). In Settings, open the Privacy tab and click Deactivate Account at the bottom. Quora sends no emails or notifications to a deactivated account. Your answers and posts stay visible, and logging back in reactivates the account (and, with it, the emails).

Delete (permanent). In your privacy settings (quora.com/settings/privacy), choose Delete Account and confirm with your password. If you signed up with Google or Facebook, you’ll need to create a password first: click Change Password near the top of the page, then create an account password. The account is deactivated right away and deleted after a 14-day grace period. Logging in during those 14 days cancels the deletion.

Deleting removes your profile, answers, comments, posts, votes and messages from public view. Questions you asked stay up, without your name on them.

Stop doing this sender by sender

Quora is rarely the only one. There’s Pinterest, Medium, three retailers and a webinar you attended once, each with its own settings page, footer link and filter. Carly is an AI assistant that clears them for you.

  • Unsubscribes for you. Carly uses each sender’s one-click unsubscribe link, the same mechanism behind Gmail’s Unsubscribe button.
  • Files the backlog in one pass. It labels, moves or trashes every matching email at once, in Gmail and Outlook.
  • All your inboxes at once. Connect all your accounts, then just ask. Text Carly, email it, or use the web app.
  • Stays clean on arrival. A free Zapier-style workflow (the “File email from a sender” template) files mail from the senders you pick under a Gmail label or Outlook folder the moment it lands. No AI needed.

Emily gets Quora digests at her personal Gmail and Space updates at her work Outlook. She texts Carly: “Unsubscribe me from Quora and Pinterest, and move everything they’ve already sent into a Newsletters folder.” Carly hits the unsubscribe link on each kind of email it finds and files the backlog in both inboxes. The same approach works on junk calendar invites too: see how to stop spam Google Calendar invites.

FAQ

Why do I still get Quora emails after unsubscribing? Usually one of three reasons. Each footer link only opts you out of that one email type, so a different type keeps coming. Some types don’t appear on the Email & Notifications page at all. And legal notices and Space admin notifications can’t be turned off. Allow up to 48 hours for an unsubscribe to take effect, then filter whatever’s left.

How do I stop the Quora digest specifically? Open a digest email and use the unsubscribe link at the bottom, which opts you out of that email type, or switch it off in Email & Notifications. Quora builds the digest from your interests and the content you interact with.

Can I stop Quora emails if I can’t get into my account? Yes. A Gmail filter or Outlook rule for quora.com needs nothing from Quora, so it works even if you’ve lost the password or the account itself.

Does deactivating my Quora account stop the emails? Yes. Quora says deactivated accounts get no emails or notifications. Your content stays on the site, and logging back in reactivates the account.

I signed up with Google. How do I delete my Quora account? Create a password first. In your privacy settings, click Change Password, then create an account password. Then choose Delete Account and confirm with that password.

How do I stop Quora Space emails? If you follow a Space, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of its emails. If you’re a Space admin, Quora treats those notifications as required, and the only way off is to remove yourself as an admin.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
