How to Sync OneNote (2026)

OneNote syncs to OneDrive automatically, but you can force it and check status when changes aren’t showing up on another device. Syncing requires the notebook to be stored online and you to be signed in — local-only notebooks don’t sync.

1. Force a Sync (Windows)

  1. Right-click the notebook in the navigation pane.
  2. Choose Sync This Notebook Now.

Shortcut: Shift+F9 syncs the current notebook; F9 syncs all open notebooks.

2. Check Sync Status

  1. Right-click any notebook > Notebook Sync Status (or File > Info > View Sync Status).
  2. The dialog lists each notebook with its last sync time and any errors.
  3. Click Sync Now or Sync All from here.

3. Sync on Mac, Web & Mobile

On Mac, right-click the notebook > Sync This Notebook, or use File > Sync. The web app at onenote.com/notebooks is always live — it reads and writes directly to OneDrive. On iOS and Android, pull down on the notebook list or tap the sync icon to refresh.

4. Set Sync to Automatic

  1. File > Info > View Sync Status (Windows).
  2. Choose Sync automatically whenever there are changes (rather than manual).

This keeps every device current without prompting.

5. Troubleshooting

A notebook is stuck syncing

Close and reopen the notebook (File > Settings / Properties > Close), then reopen it from OneDrive. This rebuilds the local cache.

Sync error 0xE0000007 or similar

Usually a OneDrive connection or sign-in issue. Confirm you’re signed into the correct Microsoft account and online, then retry.

Changes show on one device but not another

Force a sync on both devices (Shift+F9) and confirm both point to the same OneDrive notebook, not a local copy.

A section won’t sync

A password-protected or corrupted section can block sync. Unlock the section, or check Notebook Sync Status for the specific error.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
