Gmail and Outlook inboxes from personal and work accounts reaching one ChatGPT conversation

Can ChatGPT Connect to Multiple Email Accounts?

Yes for Gmail, and less clearly for Outlook. ChatGPT has held several Gmail accounts at once since August 28, 2026, and OpenAI widened multiple accounts to more plugins on September 17. For Outlook, OpenAI’s help says a second Microsoft account works “where supported,” and personal Outlook.com and Hotmail aren’t mentioned.

With Carly, ChatGPT gets all of them. Add the Carly plugin and every Gmail and Outlook account, personal and work, at every company you work with, sits in one chat.

Do this instead

  1. Connect every inbox at carlyassistant.com/integrations: each Gmail and Workspace account, plus Outlook, Hotmail and Microsoft 365 at every company you work with.
  2. In ChatGPT, click Get the Carly plugin, install it, and sign in with your Carly account.
  3. Ask across all of them at once:

Check all my inboxes for anything about the Q4 renewal and tell me what still needs a reply today.

That is the whole setup. Get started at carlyassistant.com.

What ChatGPT holds on its own

For Gmail, open Settings → Plugins, choose Gmail, and pick Connect another account. Outlook is where the documentation thins out:

OpenAI's multi-account support started with Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Contacts in August 2026 and spread to more plugins on September 17, 2026, though the help center still says only that "some apps support more than one connected account." Its Outlook article hedges a second Microsoft account with "where supported," routes some actions through each company's Microsoft Entra administrator, and never mentions Outlook.com or Hotmail. Carly carries every Gmail and Outlook account you have, personal and work, at once.

Users who try a personal Microsoft account report being sent to a work-or-school sign-in instead. And when ChatGPT pulls from the wrong inbox, OpenAI’s troubleshooting advice is to name the account in your request.

Several inboxes isn’t the same as one inbox that runs itself

ChatGPT can now see your accounts together. Seeing them isn’t running them. ChatGPT answers when you ask. It won’t label Outlook mail as it lands, notice the contract that came back overnight, or text you that a client is waiting. OpenAI documents event triggers for new Gmail, Slack and GitHub activity, and Outlook isn’t among them.

What ChatGPT can do once Carly is connected

ChatGPT already sees your Gmail. With the Carly plugin it can run all of it:

  • Personal Outlook, a second company’s Microsoft 365 and every Gmail, in one chat.
  • Your rules on every email. Carly labels, sorts and files by the list you write, the same way each time.
  • New Outlook mail starts work, not just new Gmail, with no chat open.
  • Every calendar checked before a booking, Google and Outlook together.
  • Phone and text. Carly texts you about what matters and answers your business line.
  • Your whole stack through one plugin. Carly connects to thousands of apps, from QuickBooks to HubSpot.

What you can automate across all of them

Carly works every inbox you connect, Gmail and Outlook alike, with no chat open:

  • Text me when an urgent email arrives. A real person waiting on you, a deadline or money sends a text to your phone.
  • Label and sort every email. Carly applies your Gmail labels and Outlook categories by your rules, the same way every time. Nothing is deleted.
  • Draft replies to the emails that need you. Carly reads the full thread and saves a reply in your voice to Drafts.
  • Get one morning brief across every inbox, grouped by account.
  • Chase threads that went quiet and stop when someone answers.
  • Book meetings across every calendar, Google and Outlook, before offering a time.

Carly connects to thousands of apps, so the far end of any automation can be a tool you already pay for. Browse more at carlyassistant.com/workflows.

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
