Gmail and Outlook inboxes from several accounts reaching one Grok conversation through Carly

Can Grok Connect to Multiple Email Accounts?

Only one of each. Grok’s Gmail connector signs in to one Google account, and its Outlook connector reaches “the mailbox of the signed-in user,” which has to be a Microsoft work or school account. So Grok can see one Gmail and one work Outlook side by side. A second account of either kind means disconnecting the first, and a personal Outlook.com or Hotmail address can’t connect at all.

With Carly, Grok gets all of them. Add the Carly connector at grok.com and it works across all of your Gmail and Outlook inboxes at once.

Do this instead

  1. Connect every inbox at carlyassistant.com/integrations: Gmail and Outlook, personal and work, your own domains and your clients’.
  2. Go to grok.com/connectors, click New Connector, choose Custom, enter https://carlyassistant.com/mcp/ and sign in with your Carly account.
  3. Ask across all of them at once:

Check all my inboxes for anything from the accountant this week and tell me which threads still need a reply.

That is the whole setup. Get started at carlyassistant.com.

What Grok’s own connectors hold

Gmail and Outlook are separate connectors, so you get one account on each and nothing more:

Gmail accounts at onceOneAll of them
Work Outlook accounts at onceOneAll of them

Personal Outlook.com or HotmailCannot connectYes
Shared mailboxes like billing@Your own mailbox onlyYes, as their own mailbox

Inside the one mailbox, the connectors are capable. Both search, read, draft and send. The Gmail side has one more catch on a business account: xAI’s docs say “the base connection is read-only,” and drafting and sending are switched on by your organization’s administrators.

Since July 2026 Grok can start work on its own two ways: a schedule, or an incoming email matching your filters. Email is the only event it watches. Its connectors to Salesforce, Teams, SharePoint and the rest never fire anything, they wait to be asked inside a conversation. Carly's connections work the other way round. They watch, and they start the work themselves.

The missing inbox answers anyway

Grok answers from the accounts it holds and says nothing about the rest, so “which invoices are still unpaid?” gets a confident list from one Gmail and one Outlook while every other inbox goes unsearched.

Switching accounts gets you the inboxes in turns. It never gets you the questions that need all of them: one client across every address, a morning brief that covers everything, a thread in one account checked against another.

What Grok can do once Carly is connected

One custom connector at grok.com, and Grok stops being stuck at one account per provider:

  • Every inbox in one conversation, personal Gmail, Workspace domains and every Outlook.
  • Personal Outlook.com and Hotmail, which Grok’s own connector can’t sign in to.
  • Sorting by your rules, on every email as it arrives, not only when you ask.
  • Sending from the right account, attachments included, with no admin switch to flip.
  • Calls and texts about the mail that matters.
  • Thousands of apps. Carly connects to thousands of apps, so Grok can update the CRM or file the contract in the same request.

What you can automate across all of them

Carly works every inbox you connect, with no Grok chat open:

  • Text me when an urgent email arrives. A real person waiting on you, a deadline or money sends a text to your phone.
  • Label and sort every email. Carly applies your Gmail labels and Outlook categories by your rules, the same way every time. Nothing is deleted.
  • Draft replies to the emails that need you, in your voice, saved to Drafts.
  • Chase threads that went quiet and stop when someone answers.
  • Book meetings across every calendar before offering a time.

Carly connects to thousands of apps, so the far end of any automation can be a tool you already pay for. Browse more at carlyassistant.com/workflows.

Frequently asked questions

Can I connect two Gmail accounts to Grok?

No. The Gmail connector is one sign-in, so a second account means disconnecting the first. More in Can Grok connect to multiple Gmail accounts?

Can I connect Gmail and Outlook to Grok at the same time?

Yes, one of each, because they are separate connectors. The Outlook side takes a work or school account only. Through Carly, both providers connect on one page and every account behaves the same way.

Can I connect a personal Outlook or Hotmail account to Grok?

Not through Grok’s Outlook connector, which signs in with a Microsoft work or school account. Connect it to Carly and Grok reaches it beside your Gmail. For work accounts, see Can Grok connect to multiple Outlook accounts?

Is Grok Bot different?

Yes. Grok Bot uses Cursor’s plugins rather than grok.com’s connectors, with its own limits. See Can Grok Bot connect to multiple email accounts?

How many inboxes can Carly hold?

As many as you connect at carlyassistant.com/integrations, personal and work, on both providers.

See what people say

"Before Carly, I relied on a Calendly link, but the whole process felt impersonal and not very professional. Carly changed that by handling all the back-and-forth, so I'm no longer stuck in endless email threads trying to line up schedules.

Now Carly reaches out to candidates, shares my real-time availability, lets them pick a slot, then sends a Zoom link and drops it straight into my calendar. She sends reminders to both of us before each call, which has significantly reduced no-shows and last-minute confusion.

On top of scheduling, Carly acts like a full executive assistant, sending me my schedule the night before so I can prepare for each call. It reminds me of the old x.ai assistant, but Carly is noticeably smarter, faster, and better suited to my healthcare recruitment business."
