How to Connect Multiple Gmail Accounts to ChatGPT
ChatGPT’s own Gmail connector holds one Google account at a time, but you can still work across several inboxes. Connect each account to Carly, add Carly to ChatGPT once, and a single chat can search or act in whichever inbox you name.
What one chat can do afterwards
- Search personal and work Gmail in the same question.
- Compare threads sitting in different company accounts.
- Produce a daily summary grouped by inbox.
- Draft or send from the exact address you choose.
- Label, move, or archive in the correct account.
- Check several calendars while writing to only one.
Nothing is merged. Each mailbox keeps its own credentials, and Carly keeps them individually addressable.
Why account switching does not solve this
None of the major assistants let one connector carry two accounts at once. ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini all authorize a single Google identity per connection, and the documented way to reach the other one is to disconnect and sign in again. A question that spans both inboxes cannot be answered in a single conversation.
OpenAI’s account switcher keeps separate ChatGPT logins handy, but chats, files, memory, and connected apps stay separate along with them. That helps you keep work and personal usage apart. It does not help when one question needs both inboxes at once.
The connector design is the actual constraint, and OpenAI’s own tracker describes it. The open request support multiple named accounts per app/connector notes that “the app/connector model appears oriented around one active connection per provider,” and that switching means disconnecting and reconnecting. Until that changes, one connector means one Gmail account.
1. Give each Gmail account a role
Using fictional addresses:

Names like Personal, Main Company, and Client read better in everyday questions than “Gmail 1.” Keep the full address for anything that changes an inbox.
2. Connect the first Gmail account to Carly
- Sign in at carlyassistant.com.
- Open carlyassistant.com/integrations.
- Find Gmail and click Connect.
- Choose the first Google account.
- Review and approve access.
- Confirm the connected address in Carly.
A Google Workspace account may need administrator review. Ask the Workspace administrator to approve the connection, then finish authorization.
3. Add the other Gmail accounts
- Return to Carly’s integrations page.
- Select Gmail → Connect again.
- Choose Use another account if Google preselects the first login.
- Sign in to the next Gmail or Workspace identity.
- Complete authorization.
- Verify the full address before adding another.
4. Add Carly to ChatGPT
- Open Plugins in the ChatGPT sidebar.
- Click +.
- Paste

- Sign in to the Carly account holding the Gmail connections.
- Make Carly available to the chat.
Since July 9, 2026 apps ship inside "plugins," listed in one directory spanning ChatGPT and Codex. Existing connections kept working and nothing needed resubmitting; what changed is the packaging and the storefront, not the protocol.
If + is greyed out on a Business or Enterprise workspace, the ChatGPT administrator may need to enable the plugin first.
5. Leave approval on while testing
- Open your profile menu.
- Select Settings → Apps.
- Find the app approval preference.
- Keep approval enabled for sends and other changes.
This shows you the target account before a consequential action runs.
6. Test each address read-only
In
fictional.marcus.oyelaran@kroger.com, list the sender and subject of the five newest unread messages. Do not change anything.
In
fictional.marcus.oyelaran@zoetis.com, find the newest thread containing “invoice.” State the source account and do not draft or send.
Then a cross-account question:
Search the Kroger and Zoetis example accounts for “renewal” in the last 30 days. Include the full source address on every row.
